    Help me understand this

You don't need a big antenna for ham either. I used a 14" magnetic mount antenna for a while and was still hitting repeaters 75 miles out and direct radio connections at around 40-50 miles. Plenty of range in a small package and could use ab even more compact antenna for shorter range trail comms.

    Help me understand this

A portion of my trip south earlier this year shows pretty much the same gaps in i-gate coverage. I also have my truck setup to digipeat to potentially extend range for other users when I’m out.

    Help me understand this

With the caveat that you must be within range of an i-gate for anyone off the radio based network to see your position reports.

    Any one dumb enough....

I have a 7.5lb AR build that calculates to 31ft/lbs recoil. It’s fun.

    Simple camper for Tacoma?

You won’t be able to 100% seal it because of the tailgate but it can be gotten pretty close. I bring way more water and grime into the truck bed on my boots than gets in from anywhere else. You can install a Propex style furnace with both of those campers. This thread has a lot of ideas in it...

    Simple camper for Tacoma?

You could get a Vagabond Outdoors Drifter or a Go Fast Camper and put together an interior buildout for less than the FWC shell.

    Issues with Inka Outdoors

If he can’t come up with investors willing to finance a failed company he should be forced to sell everything he owns to repay his debts. Being a nice guy doesn’t excuse what amounts to theft at this point.

    UTV's as an overlanding vehicle?

It wouldn’t be hard if you don’t try to take everything from home plus a spare kitchen sink.

    Dodge Ram with portal axles

Not in the winter when the river is a solid frozen highway. It’s a common thing in AK to use the winter to move heavy loads and vehicles through areas that are otherwise impassable in the summer. Probably didn’t need to be built quite like this but the story is 100% believable.

    Issues with Inka Outdoors

Weird, that’s the same excuse Pelfreybilt used when they blamed Tacoma World for all their problems.

    Issues with Inka Outdoors

I’m willing to bet he will be the type to file Ch 7 bankruptcy, protect his assets and have the debts owed to customers discharged. I understand that life takes bad turns sometimes but he entered into agreements to produce products, took money and hasn’t delivered. His house, car, and...

    Issues with Inka Outdoors

Did he offer any real plan to repay what he owes to customers or an explanation of where all their money went?

    Issues with Inka Outdoors

Don’t wait. Start legal action tomorrow to get your money back before it’s too late. The last people who believed that an established and trusted company (Pelfreybilt) would follow through with their word got screwed. While the company was promising action and talking about finding investors...

    Garmin Inreach, communicate your plan!

Did you ever click the link that says it will open a browser with the ability to reply? Curious if that didn’t work for you. I haven't tried sending a message from mine to an email yet.

    SAT Communicator or SAT Phone?

A spot or inreach is a more capable emergency device than a sat phone. If you’re looking for emergency preparedness not constant communication the sos/text messenger is better. A rescue coordinated via satphone is not a quick process whereas a single button push on a PLB or Spot/Inreach can...

    why skottle?

It looks way cooler in your instagram pictures as opposed to a $40 Coleman stove. If you don’t have one you’re probably not a real overlander.

    PLB (Personal locating beacon)

I very much like having the two way text capability. It turns things like a snapped ATV throttle cable 50 miles into the backcountry from a potential emergency to a manageable situation. I’m able to text people exactly what I need and where I am and have help on the way within a reasonable time...

Arctic and extreme cold weather gear

Baffin Impacts and vapor barrier/bunny boots are my go to when it’s below -30°F. VBs are better for situations that don’t require a lot of walking or moving, they’re warm but awkward, like clown shoes. Outdoor Research firebrand and Alti mittens with light under gloves to let me grab stuff...

Any experience with Warn Zeon series?

I’ve had no problems with my Zeon. It’s been used from -25°******** to 90°F, been submersed, encased in ice from melting snow running off the hood/radiator/grille and refreezing and lots of extremely dusty dirt and gravel roads.
