Stoked about the new Gofast camper

I live in Alaska and the mosquitos here are as bad as people say. I usually leave the upper portion closed until I want to climb in to sleep or leave the entire bed in place to keep bugs from getting up there. However, I experimented with putting my Thermacell in the truck bed with the tent...

    Meet the "Hitch Hotel"

Trying to go offroad anywhere with that would get it smashed. The departure angle is terrible. In the video it comes within a couple inches of hitting just pulling into a parking garage.

Going on a short trip, and removing a drop bracket lift!!

If the drop bracket is the lowest hanging portion of the truck and he removes it he just gained clearance. Even if the rear diff is lower he still gains a lot of extra clearance on the front end. Maybe not 8” but it’s still a noticeable difference.

Stoked about the new Gofast camper

That is a fairly accurate description though. Both their offerings are built with a bigger focus on being used as a camper and are better at that than a GFC in my opinion. The GFC however is lighter and still offers a comfortable space to sleep but keeps the truck usuable as a truck. Different...

    GFC vs. Vagabond

GFC says they had no issues in testing through multiple thaw and freeze cycles in Montana. It’s a concern of mine as well being way up north with 6 month winters but hopefully the latches prove to be as good as advertised. The latch itself is rated to be waterproof by its manufacturer.

    Outside showers and campgrounds?

There’s a lot of chemicals used in shampoos and soaps that are toxic. Most are not biodegradable and will not breakdown naturally. Some lead to increased algae growth in water, some are straight up toxic to aquatic life.

For Sale: Garmin Inreach Explorer SE+

I can vouch for Ramon and these Garmins. Bought mine a year or so ago in his first group buy on them and have been using it with no issues.

    GFC vs. Vagabond

GFC says they use commonly available seals so replacement should be fairly straightforward if needed.

    Van camping in -40

One day I’lol get around to learning, can always use one more expensive hobby. Seriously though, I’ve spent plenty of time in extreme cold and while -60° sucked my eyes didn’t freeze up.

    Van camping in -40

While -60° is cold, your eyes will most definitely not freeze shut instantly. It’s cold but not that cold.

Help assigning value to "Overland" 2008 4-Runner

Look around and see what the stock vehicle would sell for in your area. Maybe add 50% of the cost of your mods to the price and hope you find someone who wants a pre-modded vehicle.

Are windoors that big of a deal when the whole side panel opens entirely?

How about a tent cot for $150? Toss that, a sleeping bag and some food in the bug and get out there.

    Why use a RTT?

Expensive - yes, but not too much more than an equally heavy duty style ground tent. Heavy - 100-150lbs, not much weight when it's mounted to a truck. Ladder - never been a problem for me. Driving away - it takes ten minutes to pack the tent up, not a deal breaker by any means. Exposed to...

    Google Project Fi

You can work around the requirement to use their phone by activating the sim in one of their phones and then putting it in yours. I did that for a recent trip overseas and had no problems.

Stoked about the new Gofast camper

Is bedding really a big deal? I've used sheets and a blanket in my RTT and actually prefer the simplicity of the double wide sleeping bag I now use. It's basically flannel sheets combined with a comforter and can be folded and moved around with very minimal setup time required.

Stoked about the new Gofast camper

I'm not sure if they posted it here, but in the Tacoma World thread they've said it will carry 500lbs closed and support 100lbs with the top popped.
