Advanced RV just raised the bar!

ARVs stuff typically is $150k as a baseline, and typically goes up to $300k for the custom stuff.

Advanced RV just raised the bar!

Can your engines electronics continue to work in a sustained harsh environment? You trust them without question when you drive into the backcountry, but a single failure would leave you stranded. There is a wide variety of BMS designs. The simplest ones can be swapped in an hour, and cost...

Sprinter 4WD Conversion Idea, GMT-800 IFS.

Been putting miles on the van. I have been trying to track down a driveshaft vibration at higher speeds. Its been getting worse, and now starts coming on strong at 65mph. Quite annoying, and its very strong at 70+. Looking at the slip yoke there is maybe 20 thousands of of play/runout at...

    Adding coolant loops

Gates and dayton both have coolant rated plastic fittings. Then used heater hose (Gates etc). Most plastic fittings from big box stores are not able to handle the high temps of coolant systems. Copper can stress crack, so it needs good support, and no repeat bending.

Look like the knocking is the Reman CV axle. The shaft has about 25 thousands of axial play in the outer CV, so it knocks when the suspension travel speed is high. I have a rusty GM original (20 years old!) thats in good shape at home, so I will just swap it when we stop over for some remedial...

Update, rack bolts were all loose... Steering is back to normal now. Maybe the esp issue will improve? I am having a hard time locating the sensors frame, as it's not the same as the cars use.

Been putting miles on the van full time now. A couple issues have come up. Modest intermittent knock upper drivers side. Probably shock eyelet? Will investigate. Steering has 20 degrees of play at center only. 90% sure it's the rack, which was new last year... I don't have the energy to...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Two issues with the starter. One is the bendix drive is not retracting the gear. That's a lube/wear issue. The other is a sticking/welded solenoid contact set. Both can probably be addressed by you on a bench. Both sound different, and typical a stuck bendix is will eventually retract on its...

Ski Bum Truck V2.0, F450 Rough Road RV

There is this mystical line, somewhere between 10,000lb and 15,000lb gross, where truck parts just get big, heavy, and harder to work on. I do not envy the hard work you've put in.

With the circuit board, you can coat with rattle can clear coating spray. Another option is to pot/encase it in hot melt glue (or epoxy if you feel the need). There are purpose made conformal coatings, but they typically are expensive for a one off job. I have wondered if riveting a small...

    Mercedes sprinters

Its an AWD system (low range is an option at 1.6:1) ABS activation controls slippage. Assuming the van has a decent amount of weigh in it, they do well, even when lifting a wheel. Its not a locked off road machine, but soft sand/snow, crappy roads/tracks, are fine. Its still an 7-9ft tall...

The limits are conservative for liability reasons, so if you are under or less than 3% over, its not a problem.

    Overland Sprinter Build

Making steady progress. Should be wrapped up for the season this week. Filling the area around the new windows with XPS foam. Most of the new hydronic plumbing for stage 1 is installed. However I am getting air lock in one loop, so I need to move the pump. Stage 2 will involve...

Whats your weight at? What aspect ratio are the tires? If extra width isn't available, you can use length by airing down a higher aspect ratio tire.

    Building a Micro-Split AC System

Assuming you installed the lines properly, and added a service port, yes. You would need to add extra refrigerant for the lines. It's just a matter of line length and diameter. All these units have a sticker with the charge weight on them.
