    Snow testing

We were pretty well hammered white last night on the north oregon coast also. It's fun to see a beach covered with fresh snow! My wife made a few early morning runs with the Express AWD with the new Wild Country XTX traction tires, she said it drove like it was on rails. I was not so fortunate...

    Stove and Grill box....

just a ramble. my wife and i have worked for Costco for many years and always enjoyed what early spring brought to the selection in camping gear. Last year we purchased the Camp Cheif oven/stove combo. It was really a nice way to bring a full kitchen setup into the wilds if you don't mind the...

    Water bottle shower?

I saw that video a while back also, and liked the idea. When i showed my McGirlver of a wife she liked it also but was concerned she would have to keep pressure on the bottle to _squeeze_ the water out. I might give it a go since it's such an easy inexpensive experiment at home. I'm shaved bald...

    Lighting The Campsite Perimeter

way old thread...doing some reading on a rainy day... A bit of camp-lite humor... I have a folding candle lantern passed down from my grandpa, probably built in the 1930's or so. Put a single tall candle in there and it's good for several hours of light. So i'm camping with my new-bride...

Single-Burner Stove Users - Comment on stability?

Yup those are the ones. I was toying with the idea of fabricating a mount for the exterior curb-side rear van door. Something that could house the 2 burner stove in an upright position, then fold down for fairly easy setup when in camp. The favorite floorplan so far calls for sliding kitchen of...

Single-Burner Stove Users - Comment on stability?

a question on the "suitcase" dual fuel stoves... can they be stored for travel upright on their rear edge (like you would place a breifcase on the ground handle up?) with fuel (unleaded gas) in the tank? Or do the tanks remove for storage/travel? I'm asking as i'm trying to do some...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

I can't answer for Photog, but i did find a 4" lift kit available for the Express Van at Overland, if you scroll to the bottom of this page you will see the info, though that page only mentions rigs up to 2002(?) it seems like they could get'er done for you if you asked. happy trails, thom

    Post up your drawer/storage system

Yo RedRocker, you should have never shared that link! My wife went GaGa over the ACU high backed seat covers... just ordered a pair and they came with a free matching tailgate-gearpack. WhoooHoooo... our smittybuild seat covers in ACU camo arrived today (11-24-2010). we luv'em. really nice...

    Truck bed tents questions

I can only vouch for the nice workmanship on the truck tentz...we have the make that has the vestabule attaching to the canopy on a truck (we've since sold the TACO but use the tent out the back side of the awd van). makes for a cozy room while sleeping on the truck-bedz in the canopy.

    Chevy AWD

My wife and i just joined the Express AWD club : ) got a nice deal on a 2010 year end cargo van with rear locker. The only _mod_ we did was take the useless stock General rubber off and put on some nice Wild Country XTX Sport traction tires with a nice aggressive look to them. VanSpecialties...

    Self Contained

agree on the idea of keeping things simple. My wife and i just purchased a 2010 Express 1500AWD and will build it up with the "Westy" mentality. We had a nice Aliner EASE with all the bells and whistles and ended up not utilizing half the stuff it came with. We would use a solar-bag for a...

HAM Radio - VHF or UHF for wheeling?

yuppers on the dual band radio. usually there is very little added expense to the radio to have both. It can also come in handy in some situations where you have dual band repeater setup.

    Integrating my wife.....

lots of good tips in the prior posts! my 2 bits is to encourage your significant other to let her inner "McGirlver" out. She might come up with something like my beloved-McGirlver did. . . A potty/changing room on-the-go off the back of our TACO : ) Happy Trails, Thom

    XP Camper

Totally. It's the only reason i was able to once again have a Toyota 4x4 in the driveway. But this time around i told her that though the new rig can be her DD, when we go on adventures the time behind the wheel will be more evenly split. She's a great driver on and off road, and once she's...

    XP Camper

just a ramble... My wife is gaga over the XPCamper : ) As mentioned elsewhere we are trying to replace her daily driver that we sold (in my sig links) and off road trailer, and we both see many things about the XPC to get excited about. An XPCamper as a Daily Driver? Are you crazy? Well...
