Oh that's now an antitheft device. If one of the 5% of the American population that knows how to operate a manual transmission tries to steal the rig, they won't know what gear is what! I know where all the gears are because I've trained on the stock knob. See, I'm always thinking ahead!
Like everything else in this build, recycling stuff if the way to go, that goes for old retired climbing gear too! As far as ideas for utilizing this stuff, ideas will either just come to you or others will suggest them. The shifter is a cool idea indeed, but I cannot take credit for it. Does...
It's getting warm out. Need to get the fridge some proper ventilation. This will be controversial. I have second thoughts about it. Looked at the problems and solutions from many angles, this is just what was done and we're rolling with it.
Cut a giant hole in the floor, behind the drivers...
Got bored, made an upgrade thanks to certain peoples suggestions. Also would like to point out the fact the the canoe in the last post was built by Grumman Aircraft Corp, and it was inside a van built by Grumman Olson! Grumman in a Grumman!
Now the shifter is super custom! Rock climbers will...
Some odds and ends. Really anything to get us away from that boiler system. I'm still getting headaches from that monstrosity.
Had these very old aluminum sliding door tracks laying around. We have lots of extra wood paneling from when we did the ceiling and stuff. So we figure we can save a...
Awesome crazy build! Great fab work. Also curious how it will handle offroad. One would be surprised by how much performance gain there is in just a differential locker. Might be getting overly ambitious with the departure angles and stuff. But then again, 90% of offroad capability really comes...
Finished the diesel boiler heating system and It all works great! After lots of tinkering and design changes of course.
Boiler all wired and plumbed. Air intake is black tube on the left. Exhaust is silver tube on the right. It all looks very messy right now, but we'll get to that.
Used up...
Interesting concept. To me, underbody doesn't make much sense as a thermal insulator. Sound, maybe. But the steel floor will act as a thermal bridge and bring temperature past the insulation via conduction. Also when insulating vans, people should consider the sheet metal of the body as a vapor...
Hydronic heating system continues. Figuring out this Eberspacher boiler heater. After dozens of hours of research and tinkering, I now consider myself an expert. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I'll surely try to help you out as best I can.
One problem with all these...
Very neat electrical work! Also, thank you for not mounting the wood floor to the metal van floor with a brazilian self tapping screws. No way is that the right way to do that! Glueing it as you did is the way to go!
Nice work! Sometimes the messy, trashed vehicles can be a blessing in disguise. Cosmetics mean very little compared to good mechanical stuff. All that damp stuff on the floor, you're lucky it didn't rot through!
Just do it! They are super slow, loud, and uncomfortable. Wouldn't trade it for anything! Except for that engine fiasco, I actually look forward to repairs because it's the easiest vehicle ever to work on. Get your wife one too. They make small ones like car sized! I'm obviously not married so I...
Plumbing, check. Electricity, check. HVAC?
Oh boy, here we go. What we have here is most of the components to do a fully integrated hydronic heating system. We got an Eberspacher 17700 btu 12v diesel boiler. The boiler will heat a coolant loop through either the engine, or the water heater...
Solar work continues. Can't wait to finally get all the wiring done!
Drilled yet another hole through the roof. Luckily, this hole is in the cab area and we don't care if that leaks because it's not finished and fancy in there. Simple pvc junction box, pvc pipe, and some waterproof connectors...
All this sun we're missing out on! Lets harness some of it!
These panels have been sitting around since Black Friday sales. Lets finally get them out of storage.
Have a plan to build a frame for these solar panels. Unfortunately, they don't readily sell 16' sections of aluminum angle, so...
