Today I got bored of interior mumbo jumbo and decided to add in some air conditioning in the cab. You know, since it might get hot in there while driving. To be fair, the cab has "air conditioning", but only on the drivers side. I don't know if it's my annoying OCD or the fact that I might care...
Bulkhead wall is up, time to work on the ceiling. The ceiling is kinda mostly insulated, but since the ceiling gets a lot of direct sunlight, we think we need more R value. We also need some wood framing to mount the ceiling and stuff to.
Found some foam board insulation in the trash, so we'll...
Nice. But I'm kinda cheating with this truck, as the transmission has a granny 1st gear. You can either start it in gear or ease it in/ram it in gear and off you go. Then you just float the rest, which is what I normally do when I'm not in a rush to get somewhere. Saves the clutch over time...
Speaking of caravans, also thanks to someone finally recognizing the "dag" typo, lets get back to the "caravan" build!
So as we've been driving around, we've been picking up random building supplies, because free is better than actually paying for stuff?
So, after inspecting the ceiling, we...
Good things, and bad things.
The good, this thing is awesome for drive thru!
The bad, the clutch slave cylinder decided to leak all it's fluid out while sitting at the drive thru. Good thing you don't actually need a clutch to shift gears and we got her home in one piece.
So there is a...
We've been second guessing having the hot tub actually inside the van. It just takes up too much room. Making a kiddie pool air tight sounds like too much work. Maybe we'll put it on the roof. We'll see.
We have ideas to utilize an Espar hydronic heater and an auxiliary heat exchanger to run a loop for hot tub. Figured we could just put a valve on the end of the hot water hose into the pool. Less or no flow will cool the temperature down and open all the way will increase temperature. A simple...
Had some fun today, "testing" some equipment and ideas. Have others thought about having a hot tub in their van? Not sure, but we sure did.
So we dragged a kiddie pool into the back of the van, filled it with hose water.
I had to replace some pic fittings on the hot water/engine coolant heat...
I gotta give a shout out to nutserts. If you don't own a nutsert tool, you're missing out. These things are great and we're going to be using them everywhere in this build!
Used to be all these giant "screws" holding everything around the doghouse together.
Installed some nutserts to hold it...
Son of a sailor. This whole time I've had my documents inside a small backpack just thrown in the back corner. Ok then, this makes perfect cents. We're keeping the document tube then.
Great news, the van is mobile! Everything works and it drives fantastic!
This thing cruises on the highway! Gained 15mph with functioning overdrive. Much quieter too. Still hurts your ears, but no more bleeding out of the one ear.
Oh boy, weeks sitting in one place made a nice mess. Lots of...
Can't wait to drive this thing and see if all our work on the axle and transmission actually worked and won't blow up! In the meantime, got more stuff to reassemble.
Heater box all painted and back together.
Redid the whole blower box too.
Yes, maybe we should have changed the heater core...
Thanks! Hopefully this thing gets finished and the real story begins.
Oh my. I've worked on them Fords before. They are pretty bad. But the Mercedes and Dodge Sprinter vans take the cake on repair and access nightmares. If I had to change a heater core in a Sprinter, I would just scrap the...
Transmission parts came in the mail!
These are all the components we think we need. Emphasize on the think part.
Pretending I know what I'm doing.
These springy thingalings looked important on the parts diagram, so they go in too.
Got a new ringading funny ring to put in. Note the...
