    Square Body Suburban Info

What years count as GMT 400? I have a 99 behind my garage right now and can take a few measurements for you. Based on the mechanical condition of it and the work I’ve been doing, I think the systems aren’t all that well designed, but you get what comes with the Chevy logo, and I only paid $500...

    Square Body Suburban Info

You will give up a lot of modern safety, might not matter to you, but think about mama and her opinions if you are hauling littles around. You also need to be okay with never making a u-turn in your life. That seemed alright to me until I moved to a city that had large numbers of median...

    Help diagnosing a battery

I’ve had similar no-starts on my 2014 and found a barely perceptible movement in the negative cable clamp. It sounds to me like you are restoring a bad connection when you move batteries. When you say the terminals are tight, have you also checked the “other end” of the negative battery cable...

Just bought a GX460 with a bad engine.

? Is there any reason not to at least tear the current engine down to find the source of the problem? Rolling new bearings into rods and mains is pretty easy in comparison and cheap. A new/used is 100% unknown. Repairing the one you have is probably more like 30% unknown after completion.

Wondering what you guys think a fair price for my trailer is

In my experience, a 10k price point is a little hard to hit on Craigslist, as people surfing that don’t tend to have 10k available to them and are looking for bargain basement types of deals. Personally, if I wanted 10k I would probably list around 14 so I had something to give up. The CL...

    warn m8000 rebuild

Winch cable isn’t really special. Just wire rope. Tractor supply probably has it, as well as hardware stores. You just want to be sure to get a seated on thimble eye, although clamps could be used, they shouldn’t for most safe operation.

    warn m8000 rebuild

For a car hauler, I wouldn’t put more cable than 2x deck length or maybe 2x plus 10’. Less cable is better for pull, cost, etc. You should be able to get various hooks and safety hooks at any wire rope supplier.

    Anyone having issues with KO2's?

My F250 begs to differ ... violently begs. However, my Jeep eats tires faster and worse than any vehicle I’ve ever owned. Usually 2 rotations per oil change if I want them to last more than 30K miles. I wouldn’t take a single shop technicians word for it though. What caused the imbalance...

Using an ice fishing tent for winter camping?

I have frequently slept / camped in an ice fishing shelter, but never used one for camping other than on a lake. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, but if you’re doing that, you might as well fish.

7 Pin for charging + 4 pin for driving?

So what is the intent of the 7 pin setup if not to provide a charging current to the trailer? Genuine question: historically, why did 7 become the standard?

    1976 Jeep J20 pricing help

Location of truck, location where you intend to register, and body condition will make a big difference. I doubt I would go more than $3-4K for any 1976 regular cab truck, but I’m not in love with Jeep trucks and I know that there are many functional trucks in that size class out there.

    warn m8000 rebuild

I have nothing of value to add to this discussion, yet I feel compelled to ask: Did you somehow convince her that putting that thing on the carpet was “better” than on the hardwood floor? I would be in trouble if I did something like that, and I’m a guy that rebuilds pistons and cranks on the...

    What’s wrong with this picture?

Ohhh!! I know! There isn’t an oil leak? In fairness, my JK doesn’t have the worlds best oil leak history, but my rovers definitely leak more.

If you had to pick one: Skid plates or rock sliders?

I’ve holed oil pans more than once taking cars on roads they shouldn’t be on. A smashed rocker may cost if you fix it, but an engine costs more.

    flip up window blank ideas

What about using a key to open them and not having a latch? You can get various key cores that turn a lever on the inside, that lever can engage a hoop to close, lock, and latch. If you have a rubber bulb seal around it, the seal should maintain spring pressure and prevent rattles, push in...

    Oil cooler housing part number?

Given the time and $$ involved to install, and the $500 I just spent for 2 plastic ones, I think 5-600 for an aluminum one isn’t out of the question. I’m not sure, but it doesn’t look like a complicated casting or fluid flow. I’ve been messing around with the idea of home aluminum casting...
