Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

I think Toyota had a mandatory recall or buy-back of some sort on the Tundra corrosion problem. Mine is OK on the oil leak at 75K and no corrosion, but I'm in California.

    Low Profile Ice Chest

I have a few soft coolers, small to mid-size. They seem OK for day trips but just don't seem to hold temp well enough for multi-day trips. Better than no cooler, but I'd try to fit a rotomolded cooler if possible.

2.5V voltage drop normal when running a 50 amp load?

100% charge level on those batteries is 12.85+OCV, so their state of charge seems to be OK. Key is to not run the compressor when the engine is not running, and maybe do the hand throttle thing to keep charge rate up. I changed my factory alternator from 160amp to 270amp, but my new alt puts...

    Low Profile Ice Chest

Bison 25qt is 15.5" tall, the 50qt is 16.5" tall. https://www.bisoncoolers.com/collections/coolers/products/50-qt-bison-cooler Look at Canyon coolers. too. Or think about one of the new soft-side coolers that will collapse a little if too tall. Ozark Trail 52qt is 17" tall. Lots of choices...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

I currently own a 2008 Tundra 5.7 CrewMax SR5, a 2005 5.7 Power Wagon Quad Cab, and a 1998 5.7 GMC K1500 Z71 Extended cab, all gassers and all driven hard. In the past have owned other trucks from Chevy, Toy, Mitsubishi, Mazda. The Dodge is, by far, the absolute best of the bunch. Not only...

Premium & High End Ice Chests & Coolers Reviews

If that one has rubber feet, just take them off and that might allow it to fit your space. My Orcas came with rubber feet on the corners and I just unscrewed them to make the loaded chests easier to slide in and out of the truck.

Premium & High End Ice Chests & Coolers Reviews

Hey, don't knock the WalMart camp chairs. I drove over one with my truck a few years ago, bent it back into shape and it still works, although ugly. Bought a fresh one this morning for $5.37 on clearance.

    Which shovel?

I carry a full-size D-handle spade and a long-handled hoe for pulling material out from under the truck and from around the tires. That combo works pretty well in the desert.

Might be the wrong place.... how do you store your batteries (AAA, AA etc)

I use urine sample jars. They are the right height to hold bundles of AA and AAA batteries, and I can stash the jars in small compartments or throw a jar in my pack. And they are waterproof.

Drilling holes in Thule cross bars?

You can get square u-bolts at a good hardware store or from places like McMaster-Carr.

    Looking for a hatchet sheath

Find a gun store or gunsmith with an in-house holster maker. West Coast Ammo in Temecula CA has a guy who does custom holsters in leather and/or kydex. Shouldn't be too hard to find a similar guy in CO. Or check with the SASS or cowboy action shooters to see where they get their gear made.

Looking for Washable Seat covers with a massive array of pockets

http://www.currentcamo.com/ This is where I got my Tundra covers. Website is down for maintenance, but you can get to the owner at ron@currentcamo.com 480.745.4682 ronpartain@gmail.com He'll do just about anything that his shop can sew, and you get to choose the material. He'll send fabric...

Looking for Washable Seat covers with a massive array of pockets

I ordered a set of molle cordura covers for my tundra a couple of years ago, and the shop I ordered them from added several extra pockets that I specified the location and size for. One of their regular options was a handgun pocket on the front of the bottom cushion and I had them modify that...

Premium & High End Ice Chests & Coolers Reviews

I lived for decades with Coleman and Igloo and Rubbermaid coolers, but decided to spring for a pair of Orcas because in the AZ summer, I got tired of having to buy lots of ice every day. It was not just the cost of the ice, but the time I burned driving to town to get the ice and having to go...

Time for a new battery, suggestions?

Since you don't need it for starting, and you are already set up for a Grp31, think about a cheap G31 lead acid deep cycle from some place like WalMart. Not an AGM but a lot cheaper, and just swap it out for a fresh one when it dies. If you really want AGM, just spend the money for a Northstar...

    Yakima Mega Warrior roof rack

OK, this is my truck, with the current rack and tank arrangement. Tracks are 60" Yak mounted through the SnugTop shell with extra and extra long stainless cap screws and stainless fender washers underneath. Towers are a discontinued Yak model (three pair rather than the normal two) that I got...

    Yakima Mega Warrior roof rack

Good news is that you get to customize it yourself. This is not my truck, but it is an ARB rack mounted directly to the shell. The ladder on the passenger side is tied to the rack and to the nerf steps, because this one is a big truck.

thoughts on the Duralast AGM batteries?

I have had a pair of Optima Yellows in my GMC for the last five or six years, no problems. Installed a pair of Optima Blue Dual Purpose in the Power Wagon in August 2015, so far so good as house batteries for the fridge and as backups for winching and starting.

    AGM battery issue/recommendation?

I think you may have gottten the wrong charger for your AGM. That is an automatic charger, but it does not appear to be a smart charger. I saw nothing that indicated it has the charging profiles for AGMs, and it only charges at 5amps. Schumacher makes smart chargers for AGMs (they used to...

    Yakima Mega Warrior roof rack

I have Yak crossbars mounted to Yak tracks on my SnugTop cab-hi shell, with an old school Con-Ferr basket mounted to the bars. The Con-Ferr always has four MaxTrax bolted across the back, plus a 13+ gallon water tank on the right and an EZ Awn Bat 270 awning bolted to the left side. The...
