    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

While cleaning up some stuff I ran across an old PIAA LED rear fog light (?) that I had at some point in time for some car for some reason. Seemed perfect for something I've been thinking about for a bit. The Raider's OEM brake lights work fine, but they are 80s-car brake lights, not especially...

    Brake Pads for Overweight Tacoma

I use Hawk SD (super duty) on my Sequoia and they are great... Much better than the HPS and the LTS I had previously used, and light years better than the Toyota stock pads in terms of bite and stopping power and fade resistance. I highly recommend checking them out.

Pitchblack Motorsports - 2010 Sequoia rally support and light adventure rig

So nothing of particular note done recently (been working on other projects), but today it was time to circle back on a growing annoyance that I didn't take care of earlier, regarding the Android A/V receiver I put in earlier this year. The title of this write up is: D'OH! So just a quick...

    Montero Gen2 Parts Garage Sale

Do you have a steering box (any year Gen2)?

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

This week I kinda decided I didn't like the setup with the box at the rear. And I decided no reason to have this 6' awning on the side since I don't really camp in this truck at the moment and it's weight up top I don't need. So the awning came off, the box moved back to its original position...

    is 4x4wire gone?

Bummer, I used the wire a lot during my Raider build. The historical information there was great, though clearly little new activity there in years.

    The Status of Overlanding Today

meh, it's all relative. People will assume what they want to assume. Some think you're an overlander. Some think you're a poser, who cares. Like, for me...my Sequoia has a big rack, upsized KO2s, shitloads of roof lights, 8' awning, 7-gallon water tank, under-floor gear platform, antennas...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Today I was thinking about weight, and the fact that this thing is very nose-heavy thanks to the V6 and pretty much nothing in the back, so decided to do some weight transfer (on the roof), by moving my gear box (which currently holds traction boards) to the back, making access easier as well. I...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

I mean, I don't "need" it now. It's just there to reduce mud and stuff spraying up on the frame. Flares wouldn't have any effect on that. I'm a rally guy, I like mudflaps :D

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Thanks. Luckily these trucks are pretty simple in most respects and don't require a lot of wrenching expertise or fancy tools! Basically the complete opposite of my Porsche project lol.

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Yes, I was actually pretty surprised since the 1.5" spacers on my competition rally car are almost unnoticeable in terms of feel (And it actually IS a race car!) But at least in theory it makes some sense since moving wheels outward lowers the roll center of any vehicle, which may be more...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

For a while I've been considering getting some spacers. This thing is short in length and tall in height and I'd like a slightly wider stance (for stability and admittedly for looks). I happened to come across a good deal on a full set of nice 1.5" spacers so figured what the hell. Anyhow, they...

    Sedole's Gen 1 SWB

Thanks. I actually ordered up some 1.5" so we'll see how those look. I'm thinking of getting some small flares in the future so kind of thinking ahead of what spacers would look best with those.

    Sedole's Gen 1 SWB

Man, how did I miss this thread. The bumper came out great, really a nice-looking rig. Side note: are those 1.25" or 1.5" spacers? Also chuckled that you have the same muffler that I also installed on my Raider. Sad to see you sold the rig, was looking forward to more stuff I could copy :)

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Under certain conditions yes. But they are inconsistent and they unlock if you have to go backwards, And they are hard to lock if you are already stuck lol. The manual hubs are much stronger and eliminate a possible points of failure when off-road.

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

I suppose anything is possible. I also had a second V6 raidar as a parts car and it also had the 26mm, based on the old brackets that I still have. I almost wonder if it was something they did only on the Raider badge models rather than on the Mitsubishi ones. When I bought this one It was...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Funny you mention the sway bar, as I was just researching that aspect last night. However, I'll have to correct you there - the 2dr V6 models had the 26mm swaybar stock (I measured mine to be sure), and I remember having to get the 26mm bushings when I switched to poly. I suspect the 2dr V6...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

This one is an 89, though, so i have coil springs out back :) I test drove an 87 with leaf springs and the handling difference is night and day stock for stock. I am basically keeping a look out for springs in the back that have a higher rate but will keep the same height. Or I will get the...
