Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

As the rally season is getting going, not much time to tinker with more ideas for the trailer at the moment. However, I did get my plates today, so the plan is to get it out for a test tow maybe this weekend once I get home from racing.

Question to those running the same vehicle wheels on your trailer..

thanks, I got lucky to find a rust-free Mighty Max bed for this project :)

    Sluggy the First Gen Montero

If it makes you feel better, my engine had a blown HG as well and looked a lot like that. After rebuild and hone and cleanup, runs perfectly now.

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

I've been mostly working on the rally car getting ready for a heavy rallycross/rallysprint/stage rally season that is getting started, as well as my Sequoia tow rig (frame rust repair and new headers - both of these a major PITA on a rusty old Toyota (is there any other kinds?)). Today decided...

Question to those running the same vehicle wheels on your trailer..

FWIW, mine are ET15, so that's about 1/2". I actually intend to put some 15 mm spacers on to get my track width identical to my towing vehicle, at some point. That said, I have 6K hubs, on a trailer that weighs maybe 500lbs empty and maybe 1.5k fully loaded, so I'm not too worried about. I...

Question to those running the same vehicle wheels on your trailer..

I did it both for aesthetics and to avoid having to carry a spare for the trailer (though it seems unlikely I'd flat an all-terrain on a lightweight trailer). Also because I love the Gen1 Montero wheels. Also so I can rotate around all six since the trailer will NEVER wear these out and...

    Sluggy the First Gen Montero

Nice find! The yellow is unusual - original color? In case you want to do some reading, I have a pretty extensive rebuild threat for my Gen1 SWB - it's a V6 with rear coils, but most of the other stuff should be the same and you might get some ideas (especially interior, as I've done a good...

Interested in Aussie Locker for 8" Montero V6 diffs? Step in..

Haven't forgotten about this - I sent them an email today saying we have 13 at the moment, so we'll see what they say. Otherwise, will just wait a bit longer and see if a few more people jump onto the list.

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

So the rear end caps came in today (from Medellin, Colombia...I half expected there to be a brick of cocaine hidden inside the box). They're aftermarket (oddly, stamped "Montero" even though I thought they were sold as Pajero down there). Of all the curious things, all the captive nuts used to...

Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

Not yet. Thanks to DMV COVID restrictions I don't have tags for it yet (scheduled for later this month), and I don't really feel like loading it all up just to unload it. I'm too old for that ******** lol. I did use it for a week to store all of my spare rally gear in the black and yellow bins...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

I scratch-built a new frame for it. I originally considered using the pickup frame and axle, but didn't like how heavy all that was. So built a frame and put a 3500# trailer axle with 6-lug hubs on it. The cover is just a cheapie from Amazon made to fit an old S-10 pickup. It's not a perfect fit...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

For no apparent reason I was searching around on international ebay and found some new corner pieces for the bumpers (from Colombia). The corners on mine are cracked, mashed, and generally ugly. Not *really* a big deal since they're there to get bumped and mushed, I guess. Anyhow, picked up...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Not much new going on with the Raider, but the last few weeks I've noticed a loud metallic sound coming from the engine bay when driving, which was pretty easy to pinpoint as bad bearings in the alternator, which is who-knows-how old and came off the parts truck when I built this thing. In any...

My '89 Dodge Raider aka Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero

I've never gotten my cruise to work. It's literally the only thing on my rig that doesn't work. I swapped out power windows for manual, just because I've never owned an 80s car that DIDN'T have a power window motor fail with the window down, on a rainy day (and I've had a lot of 80s cars) lol.

Fuel Tank interchangeability in Gen 1 SWB Montero/Raider

FYI, the Raider's HP fuel pump nope, only ones MADE for immersion. For instance, the car in my avatar (a 220hp e30 competition rally car) still uses the stock Bosch fuel pump, which is mounted in front of the rear wheel behind the rocker panel. It has a low-pressure in-tank "lifter" pump to...

Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

Saw a pair of tow eyes from my Sequoia sitting around the garage (removed to fit the front hitch), so figured, might as well do something with them, and give myself rear recovery points on the trailer, if for some reason I'd ever need them Oops, fail at camera focus because of wet paint or...

Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

I had to cut some stickers for a buddy's rally car yesterday, so while I was at it, cut a MITSUBISHI one for the tailgate. I was thinking about doing it in white, but in the end decided to go with something a bit more subtle. The dog decided to show off how well the vehicles match with him.

Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

Yep same plan here in terms of running wires. Right now I run everything off a block of plugs that is basically right next to my fuse box in the garage. Laundry room is an interesting idea since it is directly across the wall from the garage but I would need either a very long extension cord or...

Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

Trust me it's on the list! That said I've never had any issues with the welder running 110, And I'm not sure I have enough future project justification to drive the cash on a bigger welder. The thing that actually trips my circuits is my plasma cutter when being used at the same time as my...

Mighty Max (pickup) Expedition/Utility/Rally Support Trailer Build.

After debating on some solutions to the hitch interference (thanks all for the suggestions!), I went ahead and bought a bulldog hitch, since it doesn't have a top latch and will save me from making changes to suspension or the neck itself. So that came in today and man, it's beefy. I know these...
