    Off-road teardrop scratch-build

Okay awesome. I was using this calculator: https://www.blocklayer.com/kerf-spacingeng.aspx but I think it's useless, or I'm missing something crucial. I also didn't want to make too many cuts because you can't un-cut it. I'll keep plugging away, thanks for the help!

It's 1/2" Okoume. The kerfs are ~3/8" deep, and spaced at about 2 1/2" apart. Any specifics you can share with your method to apply the hot water?

I got myself psyched up and I made some more significant cuts in the front wall. It went really well, actually. So I secured the fridge back in place. Then I made the smaller cutout into a door by adding a pair of hinges. The water heater will hang on the inside of the door. We will just...

Thanks Dan, you too! We had a large haul of plywood, which should be sufficient to finish off everything. I was excited, yet petrified to start cutting it up, since it's kind of pricey marine-grade Okoume. I spent a day rearranging and eye-************* it, trying to sort out the whole process. Then...

The battery has this small raised portion where the top is sealed to the bottom. But it will lay on its side. So I chiseled a pocket for the raised section to sit in, allowing the battery's weight to be distributed more evenly across its side. Then I blocked it in place and made the...

One gas spring (22.5lbf) is enough to hold open the door in the headboard. I just need a magnet-stop to hold it closed that last ~1/8", and a handle to give us something to pull it open with. I laminated what I'm calling the "battery tray" with a piece of steel for extra strength...

    Off-road teardrop scratch-build

Interesting! I'll keep an eye on that. I was yanking on some of them pretty hard to cinch down the zip ties and none of them let go. I was actually somewhat surprised. I understand vibes is a totally different animal, though. If it doesn't work out with these, it was only like $7 for 100 of them...

    Off-road teardrop scratch-build

Thanks buddy. A pair of gas springs is on order for holding the door open. I tidied up the wiring a bit. And I got the dome light switch and power outlets installed and wired. There's a bit of heavy gauge wiring left to do, but the battery needs to be in place to get proper lengths...

Thanks! If I remember correctly, the body of the trailer is 101" long by 64" wide. It's a queen size, plus a little on the forward end (for the fridge and sink), if that make sense. Small update. The interior "control panel" is mostly completed. I'm just waiting on a few small components...

The over-the-road light harness (side markers, brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights) is complete and tested. We just received the third brake light, which will get spliced in, probably when the walls go up. Very minor task. Everything worked on the first attempt, which was a relief.

I have left you guys hanging for a while. Sorry about that. We've been busy both with and without the trailer project. We had to complete some vehicle prep for an overland trip, as well as take the trip. We had to take care of some small projects for friends. We have done a bunch of winter prep...

Anytime. I realize I forgot to include the 3-way valves. I purchased them from Amazon, Camco 37463.

Yeah no problem, I stole some of yours, so we'll be even. :victory: I'll just list all of the system components in case anyone else is wondering. The pump is a SHURflo 4008-101-E65 3.0 from Amazon. The inline coarse sediment filter is an Omnipure K5667 from RVwaterfilterstore.com (item# B1001)...

The tank bolts to a skid plate, and the skid plate bolts to the trailer. So, to remove it, you have to get underneath the trailer. It's (6) 3/8" bolts and lower the whole skid plate + tank down, then disconnect the hose. It's not ideal, but everything's a compromise.

So I know it's been quite a while since I updated here. We've been crazy busy trying to finalize wedding and honeymoon plans, planning, preparing for, and embarking upon a Canadian overland trip, camping in the states, too, visiting friends and family, and general summertime craziness...

Storing a tool in its useful location just makes sense. There's no advantage to keeping the receiver empty when you're not using the shackle. Except for maybe you don't walk into it I guess? But my thoughts on that are simple. Either a) it didn't hurt enough to learn when you did it the first...

I haven't updated in a bit because I have been busy prepping a tow rig. 2003 Tacoma V6 TRD. It's a new england truck so it was in pretty rough shape: I gave it a pretty thorough suspension refresh/upgrade/lift: Before: After: Not totally quiet on the trailer front. I have...

Switch install looks great! You're definitely in charge of wiring detail when I get around to adding some circuits to the truck.
