GMRS, CB, and AM/FM antennas in close proximity?

I prefer not to do roof-mount antennas for the moment (don't want to drill holes, and don't like wires running across the roof), and don't like antennas in front of the cab (personal preference). So I'm considering fabbing up an antenna platform that would sit above my spare tire in the rear...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

First, I didn't really like where I originally put the GMRS radio. Mounted down to the side made it hard to reach and the speaker was facing away from me. So I moved it up on top of the dash right under the grab bar. Because of the "lip" of the dash front I had to raise it up a bit to sit flush...

Gen1 front hitch w/stock bumper, for $20 or under (how-to)

Nice, that's basically exactly what I'm going to do. The winch itself will have a short lead into one of those same connectors that you're using. I'll put permanent leads on the other side on both the Raider and the Sequioa, so when using the winch on the front of either I won't have a bunch of...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

The winch arrived this morning, but I was busy building some garage shelving so didn't get to it until later today. I did take a few minutes and install some new front swaybar bushings. The ones on the truck were probably original and were so compressed they were hardly even touching the bar...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

The red receiver there looks so good, I almost wish the plate didn't cover it lol. I did play around with putting the plate off to one side, but that just looked stupid and upset my love of symmetry :)

Gen1 front hitch w/stock bumper, for $20 or under (how-to)

Then, on to welding with my little Hobart 140. I cut chamfers into all the mating surfaces and cleaned the metal. Decided since it's out of sight I'd just do this with some .035 flux core since I have a big spool of that I rarely use, plus flux seems to penetrate better on thick metal. So, set...

Gen1 front hitch w/stock bumper, for $20 or under (how-to)

So this is in my build thread, but since only like 3 people actually follow it figured I'd post it up separately in case anyone cares. Backstory: I have the Raider, a Sequioa that we use for rally support and towing, and a trailer. I have one winch that I plan to use for all three, so it has to...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

And part two today: First thing I cut chamfers into all the mating surfaces and cleaned the metal. Decided since it's out of sight I'd just do this with some .035 flux core since I have a big spool of that I rarely use, plus flux seems to penetrate better on thick metal. So, set it all up...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Headed out to the pick and pull today for two purposes: First, because I saw there was a Sequoia in the open lot (usually they're in the private no-pull lot), which I got a handful of parts off of for the tow rig that I've been looking to grab. And second to go find a trailer hitch for my next...

winch for trailer loading and (rare, if ever) trail use...

Cool - that is exactly the setup that I was thinking of doing, with a few minor detail changes.

Anyone still make Gen1 skid plates?

Before I go to the effort to fabricate stuff myself and/or find a local fabber - is anyone still making any off-the-shelf Gen1 skid plates (specifically the front two)? The only place I'm finding online is Offroad Manni, which seems reasonable but extremely long lead time and I'd like to get...

winch for trailer loading and (rare, if ever) trail use...

yup, the marine grade is what I had in mind since my parents own a marina and I can get it at cost.

winch for trailer loading and (rare, if ever) trail use...

V6 gas, manual transmission, LSD rear end. I did a build thread for it in the Mitsubishi section here if you are interested. I basically built it from two different Raiders (one with a blown engine and good body + one with a rusty body and good engine+5-speed).

winch for trailer loading and (rare, if ever) trail use...

yep, I will set up pre-wiring on both the Raider and the Sequioa for easy switching, with long leads in case I need to use it in the rear (or on the trailer). On that line, any suggestions for good conductor/plug setups?

winch for trailer loading and (rare, if ever) trail use...

yep, I do carry one, which is why I figure a smaller winch would be fine in the unlikely event I need to recover with it. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something lol.

winch for trailer loading and (rare, if ever) trail use...

I've used winches before in various capacities (from industrial to maritime) and done plenty of reading, so just throwing this out there for some opinion. I plan to pick up a winch for general utility duties and last-resort trail backup (which I expect to rarely/never use). The winch will be on...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Hey so finally got this thing off the pavement. Today I rolled about 80 miles to Woodstock, Virginia to meet up with Andy Thomas (who we've rallycrossed with for years) and a couple of his buddies to hit Peters Mill Run, an 8-mile (and 8 mile back) trail described online as "moderately rocky and...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Got the radio installed today. It was convenient I left multiple switched/open power wires (directly to the aux fuse box) in the center console, so i was able to directly hookup there, which lets me have the radio on switched power. Yes, I need to do something a bit fancier than my current...

    Pitchblack Rally Recce Raider Build

Soon enough, hopefully. The plan is to hit the trails this weekend, and considering the massive storms this week, it could be pretty muddy......The Raider isn't legal for rallycross (and the BMW is substantially faster), else I might give it a go in a non-regional event lol. Anyhow... I had...
