Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

You guys talking about clear block ice with no air and cooler management and getting 16 days should try parking your truck in the Arizona desert for five days when temps hit 128F and there is no shade and your big ice chest is servicing about eight adult males and a couple of kids. Maybe I...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

My buddy said it was only Paypal or BitCoin, no credit cards. And when you go to the order pages, you are not on the WalMart website. Their web pages look like a pretty good spoof of the WalMart site, but they are not WalMart as far as I can tell. And the disconnected phone number. And they...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

Site looks legit, but I sent the link to a friend and he tried to order a cooler. According to him, they only accept PayPal and BitCoin. Red flags abound! Anyone else seeing that? Edit: I just tried to call their "contact us" number on the website and it has been disconnected. I'm staying...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

I would guess that is the key. Lots of cool/cold water, plenty of splashing and evaporative cooling, maybe some shade when you are camped. If you are using inflatables, the bottom of the boat is a lot cooler than the bed of a truck in the desert. Different conditions, different results.

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

FWIW, my Orca 58 was filled pretty much to the top, first load of ice was 30 pounds bounced around to fill cavities between the drinks and leveled off at the top so the lid would compress the ice when closed. When that prechill load had melted, I drained and refilled back to the top when I got...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

Most of the weight difference between the cheap blowmolded coolers and the high end rotomolded coolers is in the thickness of the plastic shell and the better hardware and seals. Think about the difference in weight between the black rubber latches on a Yeti vs the simple plastic button latch...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

I have asked the sporting goods guys at WalMarts in Monrovia, Duarte, Temecula, Murrieta, and Yuma, and only one guy has ever seen an Ozark hard cooler in his store, and that was a long time ago. I think Yuma could be considered and outdoorsy area, and they certainly go through a lot of ice...

ARB Twin Compressor just hums, no output

For a given load, as volts go down amps go up. If your battery was low, then you may have been drawing enough amperage to pop that fuse.

    Mid-priced seat covers?

Check Costco's line of seat covers. I haven't looked for a couple of years, but they used to have a broad offering.

    Suburban tire dilemma...

I have two GMs with hydroboost upgrades on 16" systems, and the hydroboost made a HUGE improvement in braking and overall safety. One is an old Escalade with an aftermarket Bosch pump, and the other is a 1/2 ton truck with hydroboost from a later 1-ton GM truck, and both are running 32-35"...

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

Generally, you don't want the insulation to be dense. The denser it is, the better it is at transferring heat. The best insulator is a complete vacuum, with no light transmission. It's hard to maintain a vacuum in these things, so they fill the cavities with foam to encapsulate air and...

Renogy kit or mix and match?

Thanks for the tip on Solar Blvd in Norco. I just called them and the guy was very helpful. I''m beginning to think about a simple solar panel that I can toggle between my starting battery and my house batteries, depending on where I am.

Ozark Trail "High Performance" cooler - any good?

So today they offer free shipping, but they did not offer it last Thursday. Today they offer store pickup, but they did not offer it last Wednesday. Whoever is running their internet operation needs to get his act together. When I picked up my Ozark 26 on Sunday, I was talking to the guy at...

ARB Twin Compressor just hums, no output

The ARB Twins are known to run hot. I don't know if they have a thermal overload protector, but you could check for that. ARB tech support is pretty good, so just call them.

Long-term Feedback request: Daystar Airbag Cradles

I have had Daystar cradles on my 3G Power wagon for about 13 months. They went on as part of a suspension upgrade that included Carli leaf packs, Thuren Fox shocks, and Firestone airbags to handle the heavy load that I always seem to have. Cradles were fine, but in July we noticed that one of...

    Suburban tire dilemma...

I have gone through a lot of BFG ATs and AT/KOs, and I won't buy any more of them. Have not had AT/KO-2s, though. Problems with my last two sets of BFGs related to tread separations, serious front end shimmy, and poor wear on the AT/KOs. I much prefer Toyo or Nitto. Subs are heavy, get Load...

    Suburban tire dilemma...

33s will probably fit with no lift. You can probably find a set of pretty good tires on CL for low $. When I needed a set of tires to keep my Z71 rolling until I could sell it, I grabbed four pretty fresh 33" Nitto Grapplers on CL for $300, plus about $48 for mount and balance. That was a...

    on-board air

I have a couple of Dewalt 18V impact wrenches that produce 300 lb/ft torque, and they are overkill for lug nuts, so you have to be careful. A set of torque sticks is probably a good idea if you are going to carry something like that. I think the Milwaukee M18 produces north of 400 lb/ft. I...
