OFF-GRID ENGINEERING Dual Battery Systems (An Introduction)

Do you have an off-the-shelf dual battery kit for an '08 Tundra CrewMax? I'm currently running a new Northstar 31M AGM in the stock position and have not found a good spot to mount a second battery, probably a Grp 34. Not willing to give up any cab or bed space.

    AGM requires special charger. T/F?

Your Odyssey 925s are deep cycle batteries because ALL Odyssey batteries are deep cycle. The trick is to put them on a proper maintenance charger once they have been reconditioned or replaced. Odyssey used to sell a series of 3-bank chargers developed specifically for their batteries, but...

ARB fogs have me in the fog.

If you mean it's a sealed beam, the whole lens/reflector/filament assembly comes out of the housing and gets replaced as a unit. Kind of old school, but possible. I find it hard to believe that ARB would sell a disposable fog light. Have you called ARB?

Suggestions for split loom tubing for under the hood/vehicle wiring that will last?

My split loom is holding up OK, but has only been in a couple of years. Also have some of the black mesh stuff protecting fat battery cables behind the grill on my triple battery system, so it's exposed to lots of heat and enviro stresses, holding up fine. Both came from the local electronics...

    Need input on battery charger

What are you charging and how is it set up?

Anybody use a Cabela's Pro Angler.........

I don't think that generator will deliver 20 amps continuously, so might not run the charger to a deeply discharged battery. Check the specs, but that gen is probably rated about 16 amps continuous. Probably right on the edge of being do-able, and might be fine if batteries don't get too low...

    Getting water out

Any carpet or padding that is left in the Jeep will hold water for a long time, so get out as much of the soaked stuff as you can. You'll probably want to hose out the mud, anyway. If it were mine, I'd put it on jack stands so that only one wheel is left on the ground, probably the right/front...

    Bargain Bridging Ladders II

Might be tough to deploy them when the truck is stuck. I keep my MaxTrax on the roof rack, so that they easy to get to.

    Mounting MaxTrax on Gobi Ladder?

I ordered mine from the U.S. distributor. Simple.

What vehicles make the best Expedition platforms?

I am not a Ford guy, but you should probably consider an E-350 as a base. Or an Excursion. Fuel economy won't be great, though.

    Power for tablet

I was offering a cheaper, simpler alternative to Gunner207's suggestion. Most tablet installations seem to make the tablet removable for other uses.

    Power for tablet

Or you could just pop a Blues Seas or Marinco USB adapter into an existing cigarette lighter socket.

    Mine arrived today. Thanks, Matt.

power tools: red, yellow, or blue. need help...

That's where I found the Dewalt stuff this morning. Also grabbed three 48" Johnson aluminum levels for $4.03 each. At that price, I can let other guys borrow them. The Home Depot clearance section is a crapshoot, but every once in a while there is a score.

    Power for tablet

Yes. One of the guys who often travels with me on long trips (because he'd rather ride in my truck than drive his Jeep) will have his iPad on for the entire trip (5-14 hrs at a time) and he has never run out of power with a simple USB cable plugged into a cigarette lighter adapter. Don't...

I'm on my third big pressure washer, and my Dewalt runs rings around the Karchers. Re OP's Makita purchase, the killer with Makita is the price of the batteries, so grab some whenever you find a good deal on them. Good deals on Makita batteries are few and far between. I am mostly Dewalt, and...

    Power for tablet

A USB charger that is designed for phones will charge a tablet, but more slowly. A USB charger that is designed for your tablet should work, but make sure your wiring is adequate for whatever the amp load is.

    water storage under vehicle

You might want to consider fabricating a tank from parallel lengths of ABS or PVC pipe, connected with Ts at one or both ends. That would allow you to fit the length and width of the space you have available. ABS can take the occasional thump from rocks and tree stumps better than PVC and does...

Possible to go from 20" rims to 16" rims?

In that case, the best way to clean them and get the clear coat off is to soda blast them. You'll need a good sized compressor and a blaster setup, or you could take them to a blast shop. Don't let them use any abrasive other than soda.
