I was using the auto translate of Microsoft Edge, but it has recently gone FUBAR. I have to craft my posts in Word and then copy and paste. Sign up is a PITA because of language. Send an e-mail to: petsi@ln2-forum.de <petsi@ln2-forum.de> and they will fix you up.

    MB Cab style/truck info

Mercedes makes single, extended, and crew cabs of various configurations. The first digit(s) indicate the gross vehicle weight in kilos, the last digits the horsepower. So my 917AF is: 9,000 kilos, 170 horsepower, 4x4, and a fire truck. If you import this type of truck, you will probably want...

Ouch! Have a great day.| Lot of folks swear by these. We used the original British Berkfield filters, but only with boiled water. https://www.berkeywaterfilter.com/

Why not? It's what your city does. Probably the best way to treat serious crawlies. Interesting that the Park Service recommends beach after you use a UV light.

Lived most of my life in the third world. I use a bottle of bleach and a filter. Done.

Tanx! I just wish that: -- The rims had safety beads, and, -- The tires themselves had a lower ply rating. They are stiff and stiff ain't good on washboard or soft stuff.

Looking at the pump, unless it is electrical because of the extreme aft position, there has to be a PTO. Would never argue with Dr. Arrons, but for world wide tourism, including dirty roads, a 385/65x22.5R will work and will probably give you around 60mph. This based on my exprience. And this...

With the right wheels you can probably pull about 60 mph. Long grades and you will be on the flashers and down to 25 mph. Hopefully, the auto transmission may have a better match than the manual. And remember, mechanical diesels have no, rpt. no engine braking. You will learn to love your...

Oh yeah! Lots of companies will build you any wheel you want! And then tell you it is your fault "because you ran it flat." Note the ten, yes ten broken bolts. Talk to Fabian about wheels. Ten lug may be easier. Believe me, this was not fun at 80 kph.

Joe beat me to it. I went straight to Rob Pickering (via an exploded wheel) and had him change every fluid and belt I could. Jon beat me to it. After the wheel failure, I, too, ordered 22.5" wheels from his contact in Germany. (See if you can order and have them all shipped at once.) 8 lug...

    Low Buck DIY Composting toilet

Bravo! Always happy to see a convert. We have shifted almost completely to hamster/pet bedding for our unit. More expensive than peat moss, but nicer to deal with and, I believe, better drying. For short trips we simply use shredded paper from the office with a bit of straw thrown in. We use a...

MRAP wheels on a RAM 5500? Mismatched track front to back?

Amen on the "O" rings! Gotta carry spares! Hutchinson wheels are not in and of themselves a Band-Aid, indeed, I tried to get them for my truck - they wouldn't sell to me. Running them without the proper lift/shocks/flares/etc. might be. The RAM is not set up for 335 tires from the factory...

MRAP wheels on a RAM 5500? Mismatched track front to back?

I'd go with the Buckstops as a system approach. Don't put Band-Aids on broken legs, and once you remove the dual rear wheels, at 15k lb., you are breaking legs. To play devil's advocate, why not simply keep/upgrade the dual rear wheel set up? Other than the usual horror stories of stones...

MRAP wheels on a RAM 5500? Mismatched track front to back?

I had MPT81's. The tires rode softly but were a bit squirrely in mud or snow. My General Grabbers, on the other hand, are stiff. The MPT81's tend to wear very fast. Unless you have someone ready to ship replacements, they are probably not the best choice for Latin America where you will be on...

MRAP wheels on a RAM 5500? Mismatched track front to back?

Central and South America are dead easy - tire repair shop in every village and every big city will have a heavy truck tire distributor. Whether any of these folks will look at a bead lock is another question. You simply don't find them or 20" wheels. N.B. If you consider mil surplus 20"...

MRAP wheels on a RAM 5500? Mismatched track front to back?

-- Buckstop offers a 2 piece aluminum wheel. -- There are many advantages to a full system approach when you are changing wheel size/weight/etc. -- Have you ever actually disassembled a bead lock on the road? Where are you going? I don't think that all that many folks really remount tires on...
