This is what has worn me down over the years, as well as gear storage. For maximum comfort I have a Kelty Trail Ridge 4 tent, large cot, and large mattress. The Helinox Cot, Trail Ridge 3, and a smaller mattress weigh half as much and take up half the space in the car. I also get tired of...
Holy moly Sylvia Pajoli, that's what I call a hot tip, Perkj. After a discussion with LL Bean I placed an order with Campsaver. Yes, the coupon worked as of a few minutes ago. My guilt just went down about the price but of course went up about returning the cot to Bean's. I've spent quite a bit...
I had the same problem with the Roll-a-Cot and the Mega Mat but I finally got used to it and made it work.
What do you think of the price of the Cot One? I haven't decided whether I will keep it.
Question about hammocks: How do they work for a side sleeper, or a person who needs to lie straight?
If you're a side sleeper wouldn't 72" be long enough for you? How tall are you? There's no harm in letting the mattress hang over 3" on each end. Just don't let the alligators get your toes.
This is an incomplete review of three cots as I only purchased the first two. First the specs:
1) HELINOX COT ONE
$300
4 lbs 4 oz
6 x 26.5 x 72
5 parts plus fabric
2) TRAVEL CHAIR SLEEP RITE
$198
6 lbs 4 oz (weighed by post office)
6 x 30 x 78
8 parts plus fabric
3) THERMAREST LUXURY LITE...
Yes, the Schnozzel takes up virtually no room in your gear. It's weird and awkward, but it works. In the video it takes the guy a minute and a half to inflate the very large Synmat 12 with the Schnozzel. I've counted and it takes me 150 pumps to fill the Synmat 7 with the built-in pump. That's...
I agree that the built-in pump on the Synmat 7 is a pain to use---very slow and you have to place your hands just right.
I found a way to inflate it with a cheap plastic pump. I just modified one of the nozzles on the pump to fit the deflate valve on the mattress. That involved cutting a piece...
Yes, all the valves on the Expeds are the same so the Schnozzel will work on your SynMat 7. Notice in the video that the guy actually gets outside the tent to inflate the mattress. The rolled out mattress and the Schnozzel take up quite a bit of room. Exped makes more than one Schnozzel product...
Tired of the bulk and weight of your Exped MegaMat and how hard it is to get the air out and roll it up? Exped has a new mattress this year that solves all three problems: the Synmat 12.

I found this Copa tall beach chair at a local grocery store for $26: http://www.beachstore.com/Beach-Products/High-Seat-Beach-Chairs/Hi-Boy-Chair-7-Position-Blue
It's quite comfortable. Very easy to get up out of. Seat height 17". There was a canopy version for $34.
I want to remove the rear seat in my hatchback (Scion xA) to create more cargo room. The seat seems to take up about 10 cu ft, which is a lot in a tiny car.
Any tips for how to do this?
Most of my trips involve hiking, biking, and kayaking and/or the camping versions of all of those, so I...
I can't advise you on tents available in Europe but I notice two things in your criteria.
SIZE: In your place I would get a 4-person tent. This will give you more space for changing clothes and for a second person. A three-person tent isn't as big as it sound. I would also get a tall cot for...
This topic is still on my mind. I have a Kelty Trail Ridge 2 set up on a Roll-a-Cot Wide in the house right now. The tent feels very spacious on top of the cot. Lots of headroom. The only problem is that the 4 corners of the tent are sagging because the tent is larger than the cot by 10-12" all...

Here's what I did. Get a large-diameter pool noodle from the dollar store. Cut four pieces about 4" long. Then get a piece of carpet and cut four discs about 5" in diameter. Glue the discs to the bottoms of the noodle sections. Slip tem over the cot feet.
I also find the Megamat too wide. I wish they made it in 28" to fit better on a cot. As for deflation, I find it pretty laborious due to the flap covering the deflation valve. I have to fold it and unfold it three times to get all the air out.
I think the best camping mattress on the market is the Exped Megamat. It's about 20% less comfortable than your mattress at home, but that's pretty good.
It depends on the height of your cot. If it's low to the ground, some three-person tents will work. Examples: Alps Mountaineering Hybrid CE 3 and Zephyr 3; Mountain Hardwear Corners 3. My cot is higher (Camptime Roll-a-Cot, 15") so I finally got a Kelty Trail Ridge 4. This is smaller than most...
