Do you feel the need to be unarmed and defensless while camping?

Really? What is sad about his statement? That he has a clear conscience after killing an enemy combatant? That he is willing to use deadly force to protect his own life? That he doesn't want to be in a situation where words are his only defense? I don't suspect that your sympathy is needed...

    FZJ80 Center Diff Lock Issue?

--So, clicking birfs is a indicator of wear and/or need to service. However, that type of clicking will be heard in parking lots and driveways under normal operation. The clicking that you are describing while under load in low range is something that all three of my 80s have had to some...

    FZJ80 Center Diff Lock Issue?

Seems like you got if figured out, but the driveline windup is due to the different paths that the axles take through a turn. Different paths=different distance=different driveshaft speeds--hence the binding up. The clicking is in the birfield (CV) joints on the front axle. They don't like to...

40 cal Walther P-99 sub compact in a generic IWB for moderate weather. 40 cal Walther P-99 full size in a kydex OWB for cold weather and in the woods. Keltec Pf-9 IWB via the pocket clip or in cargo shorts pocket for warm weather Keltec Pf-9 IWB via tuckable holster for dressing up(no...

TOWING 98 100 SERIES LAND CRUISER

There is a guy on mud that did some pretty extensive testing with an 80 series and found that there was no damage and very little heat build up while towing. As far as I know, the drivetrain in the 100 series is similar enough to the 80 that the results should apply. I'll dig around and see if...

    Thoughts on a '98 TLC

Looks pretty good, rear locker is a plus. 98 models did not have the rear AC though, not sure if that is important for you. If you plan on taking it off-road, the front diff in that model year was notoriously weak. Relatively easy to upgrade though.

    Vehicle Guidance

Agree with the above. I have had 3 80s and love my current one. However, the on road advantages of the 100 (power, fuel economy, comfort, space) outweigh the off road advantages of the 80 (solid axle, better clearance). In addition, the 100 is a little easier to maintain and has newer...

How to build an 80 on a budget

So...can I buy your P/S rear flare before you break it? :sombrero: How badly broke is the front one? Looks like a fun trip though!

    lockers front and rear needed?

There was no factory rear locker option on the 06. I have seen several 100 series diffs come apart, but only when they were being abused. Unless you drive like a madman off road or are running 35s, you shouldn't have an issue. That being said, installing the ARB carrier is never a bad idea in...

    lockers front and rear needed?

Also curious on what you plan on doing. The A-TRAC on the LX should get you almost anywhere you need/want to go.

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

Well, it isn't really a touring bike, but this is what I ended up with. It doesn't have the rack eyelet or the chromed chainstays, but the Columbus tubing and shimano 600 group made the decision easy... By all appearances it is an 1987 Benotto Modelo 2500--2nd bike down in their hierarchy.

    1911 or Glock

I carried a Full sized 1911 double stack for several years and ended up switching to an XD SC and then a Walther P99 SC in 40S&W. Getting a subcompact is not the same as a pocket pistol--same amount of rounds, same caliber, just a stubby barrel. I also carried a glock 22 for awhile, but found...

    Tacoma to 80 series?

I am on my 3rd 80 with no major issues. If you get a 97 it will only be 2 years older than your Taco. I think you will be very happy with it. Go with some 255s and a med lift and you will keep up with everybody on the highway just fine except for on the steep passes. Maybe a better option is...

Hmmm... Missed this up until now--got busy winning the war. It seems that it may be a little late for another opinion, but here it is anyway. I don't frequent too many forums except ExPo and Mud--the mud politics and religion section is a pretty good success story. Nobody goes in there...

Best year of the 100 series for the wife?

Take a look a the Slee off road 100 series guide. Pick out which features you and the wife want, buy that year cruiser. Only note that I have is that I have heard the factory toyota nav system can be a bit of a pain--I have never used one, but it might be worth researching/asking.

The two pinion front diff doesn't provide a whole lot of stiffness and allows the pinion gear to flex or break. The 4 pinion diff from 2000 on is less prone to this, but it still happens every so often. I don't know anything about your disco diffs, but the ARB carrier for the LC 100 completely...

Not sure about the 200 series, but the 100 series only had the air suspension as an option starting in 06, where the LX had it standard starting in 98.

Brand suggestions for Vintage steel frame

Decided to pass on the Bottecchia. I did find a 1978 Motobecane Grand Jubilee well within my price range. Research shows it to have Japanese components with standard/modern sizes and threading. Vitus double butted tubing. Any thoughts?

    Vehicle Shopping

Worth considering, however, as the vehicle ages, you will face a choice with the LX470--spend a metric crap-ton of money on replacing the air suspension or ordering springs and converting it to regular land cruiser suspension. 98 models had no rear A/C, neither had traction control or vehicle...
