Need Help! Serious Brake Problem in our FJ80

If there is not fluid loss my bet is on the booster. If you didn't use a toyota master cylinder, it is not unheard of for two in a row to be bad...... If the driver is riding the brakes, there may be nothing wrong with the system--it just gets hot and quits working.

    LC 100 thoughts

Minor details-- it makes the front end go crunch, lightens the wallet and ruins everybody's day.:sombrero: Thanks for the clarification though, that is good to know as I may move into a 100 in about 10 years or so.....

What are your plans for it? If you plan on wheeling it, the earlier front axles were a little weaker. Other than that, no worries with that many miles.

I usually buy mine from him too, but I was asking more about the mobil brand filters.

Mobil One users....Big or little filter

My 93 had startup rattle, but my 94 never did, and my 97 doesn't. We will see if this makes a difference.

Mobil One users....Big or little filter

I picked up an oill filter yesterday and was looking through the filter book. It shows 2 different filters for the 80 series, based on year. IIRC, the 93-96 used the M1-301, and the 97 and the LX-450 used the much smaller M1-102. I bought the bigger one for the larger amount of filter media...

    80 Series vs. 4th Gen 4Runner. Thoughts?

I dont mean to be argumentative, but the AWDF system on the 80 and the 100 is less complicated than any selectable system since the T100. If you don't do a lot of commuting, Dual SUVs(or SUV and Truck) is a very good spot to be. I only have my camry because of my 36 mile one way commute...

If you don't mind me asking, why the aversion to the full time 4wd?

Back country adventures with kids...how do you do it?

X3 on the other family If you go with a family that you know well, you can also rearrange the seating during your breaks. I.e. Guys in one vehicle, women in the other; older kids in one, sleeping kids in the other; Terminator on DVD in one, Winnie the Pooh in the other; etc. The...

    80 Series vs. 4th Gen 4Runner. Thoughts?

Why isn't the 100 in serious consideration? It has the extra power, better mileage, updated safety features, more room than an 80 or a 4runner, good aftermarket support for the kind of build you would do, and it is better on the freeway.

Aussie locker + center diff lock

It is a non issue. I have been driving in Northern VA for the last 3 months on icy roads, and as I stated above, as long as you don't hammer the throttle while turning on ice, you will not know that it is there. I have to work hard to get my 80 to drive differently than it did with an open...

Aussie locker + center diff lock

When one wheel slips on the ice it locks up the auto locker, then causing both rear wheels to slip on the ice. I have an aussie in my 97 and like it quite a bit. It is nearly unoticeable on road and very nice off road. My previous two 80s were triple locked, and I liked that better, but for...

    Introduction and some advice needed.

A 62 has many of the same electronics as an 80....and they are older. If you will be going manual anyway, why not just get a 60?

    Sway bars on an 80?

When you wheel like slee does, I am sure it will. The only problem that it causes AFAIK is the extra stress it puts on the remaining bolt and mount on the side that has one removed. One guy on mud tweaked his mounts running 37s so he just reinforced that mount.....

    Sway bars on an 80?

An easier way to gain flex in the front end is to pull one of the control arm bolts. I replaced it with a standard hitch pin for on road, then pull it for off road. The biggest limiting factor for the front end of an 80 is the control arm mounts. Search for hitch pin mod on mud......

Did Nissan Kill the SFA for Toyota???

Please.... We have already established that the UZJ did not retire the SFA. The 105 had it till 06 or so and the 70 series still does. As far as stout, the military has used some very un-stout vehicles over the years. Gamma goat, IFAV (G-wagen built by chrysler=POS), 6.2 diesel hummer......

Did Nissan Kill the SFA for Toyota???

Nope. Still a live axle(why would they change it when they smoked the camaro and challenger in the C&D tests?)
