Update!!!
Finally removed the cans from the vinegar bath
Hosed them off and here they are
Dried them off with a heat gun and primered both cans
I'll paint these two tomorrow and I threw two more cans in the bath
i received my 12gal tank yesterday and fitted it up last night. now i have plenty of room. one thing i was worried about previously was access to remove and install the other tank since it was so snug. now that its 6 inches shorter it won't be any issue. I'm playing with ideas of how to do the...
here is just a little update after 18 hours
the vinegar is changing color to green and there are little bubbles bubbling forth from the bottom

im not sure i completely follow what your saying. all the jerry cans besides the nato are able to use a CARB style plastic spout that screws right in (i just tried it)

funny thing, i found another vintage gas can today, so now i have 6 to do! (i clean out foreclosures for work) its funny how i have been finding old gas cans lately
wow thats incredibly crafty! i didn't know vinegar will do that. sounds like you've done this before. i prefer the cheaper route. its not like powder coating holds up great on gas cans anyway in my experience. i think ill try this out!

Phase 1 - Prepping the Area / Removing Spare Tire Brackets
i removed 4 brackets that were to support the spare tire when it was raised up and i removed material to make a nice smooth finish on the frame which i later painted.
