Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

There used to be a horrible video out there by a rather ditzy lady who managed to fill her Nature's Head to the point of overflowing with some form of liquid - urine, I fear. This was the worst "fail" that I have ever seen, but I would attribute it to pilot error. The "Fit RV" folk are...

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

Color me amazed. Had a Nature's Head for years and the only way I could get it to smell was to allow shower water to leak in. (And please forgive my skepticism, so many who post about composting toilets have never seen, let alone smelled, one.) That said, why vent? To increase air flow and thus...

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

A urine separating/composting toilet is going to work at any temperature that you can tolerate inside your camper. Did your fire lookouts have true urine separating models, or simple sawdust buckets? The power draw is that of a small computer fan. I have never bother with a switch. Another...

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

Actually, that is exactly what we thought. The reality is different. One reason I bought a SOG while in UK. Sadly, turned out that my Cassette is a bit different, and I cannot add the SOG.

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

With deepest respect, horses!t. Would love details of your experience. Which model of toilet was it? We have camped in many tight campgrounds. If there is no odor in the toilet space, there is even less outside. The odor you are talking about is the reaction of feces and urine. All of the...

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

You should look closely at the steps to commission a cassette and prepare it for storage. Before a trip: Fill the water tank and then add a litre of water to the cassette. (Chemicals optional, but recommended to reduce splashing when dumping.) On the trip: Dump every three days or so. Clean...

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

Had a Nature's Head on the Tiger. Have a Thetford cassette on the XPCamper. Cassette is industry standard, right? Got to be as good or better, right? Not a chance! The Nature's Head: -- Has no odor, -- Lasts weeks between dumps, -- Is easier to dump. The cassette is MUCH more work in every...

Natures head composting toilet in colder climates

We used our Nature's Head way below freezing. But remember, the toilet is installed inside the heated camper. Unlike a black tank there is no water in the toilet and nothing outside of the camper.

Motorcycle or not on a MB 1120

We met a couple who had a pair of Gocycles in their Sprinter based van. https://gocycle.com Folded up to nearly nothing, but rode, very, very well. No manual throttle, but the pedal boost feels like a throttle. Hard to describe, but very natural. We will be giving a hard look this summer.

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

Grossly, B2B units pull down the voltage of the source battery to no lower than 13v. This causes the alternator to ramp up its amperage, typically to maximum output. Then the B2B pulls up to its rated output from the source battery and then boosts (and now, sometimes, cuts) the voltage to the...

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

Quick look at the manual of the Electrodacus indicates that this would be a terrible idea and should fry it in short order. I have never heard of anyone connecting the regulated output of their alternator into a solar controller. (Doesn't mean that it can't be done, but I have never heard of it...

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

The 90A version of that beast looks interesting. Most Big Three pickups should be able to sustain 100A indefinitely. But how does it limit the current? The massive heat sinks might provide a clue. I would be curious. It also claims to prevent back flow. Diodes? It looks like this may be...

    Tire pressure

Neil, When I lived at altitude, I would not bother to adjust for brief descents, and vice versa. So when I lived in Guayaquil and drove to La Paz for about six weeks and did nothing. In any case, we often went up and down each day and over pressure is safer than under. In your case, depends...

    Tire pressure

120 PSI is the maximum pressure for maximum load. You need your load, by axle and the inflation chart for your tire. FWIW - My 917 at about 18,000 lb. runs in the neighborhood o 50-60 PSI and the wear is even. But run the numbers for yourself.

News You (may be able) to Use

I was able to get fuel, oil, and air filters for my 1990 917 at my local Advance Auto parts store. They won't find the vehicle in their computer, but they can find the specific parts numbers. You cannot do this yourself on line, you have to be in the store. The prices were not great, being...

4 Questions: 377 amp alternator charging LiPo system

Not a suspicion, but simply the way that batteries work. One thing to note is the sudden jump in battery voltage with no reduction in charge rate. You would not see that with lead acid. The differences between this chart and the chart that you would see with lead acid are: -- The amp rate...

4 Questions: 377 amp alternator charging LiPo system

Some real world numbers taken from an e-mail. 100Ah LiFePO4 battery, discharged until the BMS shut it down. Connected to a Chevrolet with 2x125A alternators. Connection by classic jumper cables. The jumpers were disconnected periodically when they got hot enough to melt the insulation. Took...

4 Questions: 377 amp alternator charging LiPo system

You REALLY need to do some homework - your expectations of what you are going to get out of batteries is a bit exaggerated. Trying to run an air conditioner and an induction cooktop at the same time is going to fry something. That said: -- Battle Born will tell you the maximum charge amperage...
