    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Took a ride up to Cochise Peak just east of Tombstone this morning. It's a beautiful area with loads of historical significance (beyond the well known OK Corral and Tombstone cinematic portrayals). Hit a couple trails, they were fairly rocky but not too difficult. I found a wide open mine (that...

    DMSKI's 2006 Xterra

Awesome! You'll be amazed how much difference a good set of tires will aid you on the trail, I know I was. The extra clearance under the diff won't hurt either.

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

It seems like ARB is the consensus. Are they really significantly lighter than the shock/hefty options? I haven't seen any data regarding bumper weights, but if so that would definitely be a bonus. Point taken on the breather, and I'm actually already getting the weeping rear diff seal...

    DMSKI's 2006 Xterra

On my first truck, a 2006 trailblazer, I got about 40k miles out of a set, and then took them off and sold them for $350 when I sold the truck. Obviously they still had quite a bit of life left in them. My current set on the X have about 16k miles of them, including a cross country road trip and...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

The breather extension is on my short list, but I've yet to ford water deeper than half way up the tire so I'm not too worried about it yet. I also don't make a habit of doing water crossings unnecessarily. I'm also looking at bumpers, primarily the ARB. Shrockworks looks interesting, as does...

    DMSKI's 2006 Xterra

I'm running duratracs on my Xterra, albeit in the 265 C load range flavor. 2nd truck I've had them on (not same tires, just type and size) and I have no complaints with them. I got them for the snow in the northeast, but they've served me well the past couple months in the desert southwest, as...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Covered over 80 miles of dirt road and rocky, mountainous trails today in Patagonia, AZ. Extensive use of 4-low and the locker was required. We (a couple jeeper-buddies and myself) got to check out several abandoned mines and the Duquesne ghost town on the border. Very enjoyable day, overall...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Thanks! Unfortunately (fortunately?), I no longer live in NY. I was up in Watertown for four years, but I've relocated to Arizona for the next year or so. I certainly miss the northern Adirondacks, as it truly is a beautiful area. Arizona has its charms too, though. Once you get the Xterra, I...

    Rear leaf spring advice needed

I run a dealer single AAL with OME shocks in the rear. Great ride, no squeaking. Installed the AAL with less than 20k miles on the stock leaves, so I think it was a good choice for me.

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

xterraoffroad, unfortunate I was recently relocated by the Army and won't get to experience the Watertown winter this year, HAH! I had enough Northern NY winter last year to last me a lifetime.

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Well, the wife had to work today (Christmas Eve), which was unfortunate, but it gave me the opportunity to get out and explore a little. I ventured into the Gardner Canyon area outside of Sonoita on the aptly named Gardner Canyon Trail. The trail itself is about 18 miles long, with many off...

FYI, I added 1/2 inch prg spacers on top of my recently installed OME coilovers last night, and you will get minimal CBC (at least I did). You really have to try to get the UCAs to contact the bucket though, as I've only been able to hear it when I almost jumped a speed bump. So far in daily...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Thanks will, I'll look into those. Haven't seen any seen any for sale on thenewx forums recently, but I'll keep looking. Wreck, the deaver AAL gave me a full two inches, maybe slightly more, in the rear. Haven't measured up front, but the OME coils probably give me 1.5-1.75 inches. This...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Well, Will, if you ever feel like venturing into southern AZ you know you've got a bed to rest your delicate little head... and a flask from which to indulge in spirits. Now I have to start looking at the next improvement, and I think it's time for sliders. I was going to go the shrockworks...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

So I did end up getting OME coilovers for the X, and installed them this morning. I'm now running with OME coils of the 607 variety in the front with deaver AALs/OME shocks in the rear. Rides like butter on road and off. Took a ride up a local canyon road this afternoon to flex the new setup...

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Not yet, Will. I wanted to hold off on new UCAs for a while, but I'm getting the feeling I'm going to need them if I want to stay with two inches of lift and be happy with the setup. (Happy=additional ground clearance without the CBC). Don't really need the additional travel for my current off...

I already shimmed it with 2.5 degree shims. Kurt, I PM'd you regarding the OME coilovers. Has anyone currently or formerly running the OME front coilovers experienced any coil bucket contact? I've looked into it on multiple forums, and there's mixed findings.

    Josh's 2014 Xterra Pro 4x - guided by necessity

Blind, plenty of the slip yolk is still in the T-case, so I don't think that's the issue. Last night I pulled the u-bolts, re-seated the shims, and torqued everything back down and the vibrations decreased noticeably. I then filled up the old petrol reservoir (as I was at less than 1/8 of a...
