1/2 ton trucks with 7700 GVWR

Are you looking for 2WD or 4x4? Regular Cab or Supercab? Many of the Ford F150 7700GVWR in California were CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) bi-fuel and that's the second tank in the bed... not for towing. Are you open to that?

    01-06 Suburban/Yukon XL 2500

My two cents: For one thing, 4.10s vs 3.73 doesn't mean throwing away 10% in fuel economy off the bat. IT DEPENDS, it's just math. How fast are you driving? What's the engine load? Which engine? Yes, there's a ~10% difference in gearing, but not all of that will show in your gas receipts...

4.10s were standard in the Z71 trim, as pictured above

The new 2015 Ford F150 have 7,600 GVWR and a 7,850 GVWR versions that have payload ratings over 2,500 lb

1/2 ton trucks with 7700 GVWR

I assumed he wasn't looking for new trucks (based on looking at 15 year old trucks) In addition to the not-yet-available new aluminum F150, the 2014/2015 Chevrolet/GMC 1500 would have a 7,200 lb GVWR, and 2,210 lb payload with a 5.3L V8 4x4 and the NHT Max Trailering package.

Sure, chase any *light duty* 3/4 ton.... Chevrolet 1500HD or 2500 (without the 2500HD), or the later Ford F250 that looked exactly the same as that F150 7700 (7 lugs are the giveaway). Essentially they were heavy duty 3/4 without the full floating rear ends and spring rates that kept them from...

1/2 ton trucks with 7700 GVWR

That's the only one, and they later called the exact same truck a light-duty 3/4 ton (F250) Why not a 3/4 ton? Is there a tax consequence there or something?

And the instrument cluster failures (where a gauge fails) is remedied by $7 stepper motors and a soldering iron. Or there are places that will do ALL of the instrument cluster's stepper motors and replace all the bulbs and send it back to you for $110ish.

Oh, and fuel pumps can fail if you continually run under 1/3 tank as 1) sediment is more likely to suck up into the pump, and 2) the pump is "cooled" by being submerged in fuel as a heat-sink. So when you run with little fuel in the tank, it's not cooling the pump. Again, I've had no issues with...

    01-06 Suburban/Yukon XL 2500

I've owned two 8.1s and three 6.0s of this vintage, all 2500-3500, but only two Suburbans. My current '03 8.1L has over 260K miles. Known issues? Oil consumption. Light piston slap at start-up. Can have issues with transfer cases depending on abuse (I've had no issues). Transmissions and...

Accessing the computer on 01+ GM vehicles....or why I hate my new chevy

You've made a few assumptions that humorously help make your point, but aren't exactly the truth in my case. This particular truck sees a lot of duty, it's not a daily driver or mall crawler, but a cabin/canoeing/boating/snowmobiling/car-carrying/airstream towing workhorse. A lot of Minnesota...

Accessing the computer on 01+ GM vehicles....or why I hate my new chevy

I respect Larry's overall knowledge and mechanical abilities. That said, I have a 2003 Suburban with over 260K miles and the pushbutton transfer case has never had one issue. Not one. So how many more years than eleven years does it need to work EVERY TIME before I don't worry about whether...

But that's not "EXPEDITION GRADE"..... it *MUST* have a lever, crank windows, rubber floors, and you have to be able to set the spark advance from the steering wheel with a brass lever. Oh, and the tallest skinniest tires you can find.

"Reduced Power" in the Sub 8.1 is most likely the throttle body itself, but might also be the pedal throttle position sensor (TPS).... either one will throw it into the limp mode that will show the reduced power display. They are throttle-by-wire and all inputs and outputs must match or they...

New Chevy Colorado, This thing is SEXY!!

M-B Tex is a material made by Mercedes-Benz and is not sold to other manufacturers. Very durable, thick stuff. I've owned several Mercedes that had it, and several that had leather. The M-B Tex is way more durable. Volkswagen has used several different vinyls over time and only started offering...

The synthetic pleather is for all seating surfaces in a Tacoma Limited. You cannot opt for real leather on any seat surface. However, the steering wheel and shifter covers are real leather.

New Chevy Colorado, This thing is SEXY!!

There's actually quite a lot of difference between the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon. Everyone knows they are the same mechanicals and hard-points, but the sheetmetal is quite different, and the trim levels and available features are very different. I suppose the Toyota Landcruiser and...
