In some offset pulls it would be better to rotate the hitch receiver 90 degrees to allow the shackle to operate in it's strongest position by not "side" loading it.

Regarding item 2 the tow strap I would suggest you investigate a kinetic recovery rope instead. They are intended to stretch as opposed to tow straps. Bubba ropes and Yank'm are 2 sources. On another note notice the receiver hitch has holes allowing a 90 degree orientation if an offset pull is...
