There have been many generations of LC's that have "went away" but still taking people to the ends of the earth and will for the for seeable future. So?
Really pretty simple, just hard wire the out side of your controller to the correct battery terminals then install which ever "quick" connections on the "in" side of controller and the "out" side of you panel.
Perhaps baseline both batteries by fully charging independent of each other and the isolator then reintroduce the isolator to see if system will work as designed?
I'm waiting to see who suggests bringing a Seal-A-Meal unit along to keep their "tissue" dry and tidy, probably someone that has an air conditioner too.

You nailed it, no matter how far you can go your accomplice is the limiting factor and you end up being their "reserve" if they get lazy and start depending on your supply.
Sounds like you have it figured out and in reality I share your better to be prepared position. I've used more of my safety/recovery gear to aid others than for self recovery. Seriously what could go wrong? You're going to Chicago Ykkes!
