Thanks for watching!
I think on the passenger side I will have the air filter box close to that space. On the drives side the master cylinder is pretty close.
Thank you for the idea though, I do think a storage area could be neat.
To a point I am just trying to pick my battles right now. I...
Daily progress....
Part 1 and 2 are now joined. Drilled out the mounting holes. Now the fender holds itself in place....
Now to finish off the 'bill' on the front corner....
The broad gearing in modern 6+ speed automatics can be amazing. No more need to do the high-low shuffle on mild sections of trail. My new Land Cruiser project has a 54:1 crawl ratio in low range, but can still do 6'5mph in low before 5000rpm. This should be great for the sand, desert, and mild...
Making the other fender.
Not much different. The only real difference is that I didn't have to work around a steering box.
1 of 5 parts I need to make on this side.
Much welding and sanding today...
I still have a few details to button up, but overall the fender is basically done. I am still on the fence on what to do with the rear open corner between the cowl, fender, and hood. I think I will just do a basic fill panel that is welded to the fender...
Tonight's update....
I made the last big part for the drivers front fender. Overall I am really happy with how it turned out so far. Now I just need to glue it all together and dress all the visible welds down.
I was able to fold this forward 'bill' in one part using my homemade press...
Part 3 of 4 for the front fender....
It felt like more of a step backwards cutting out a big chunk of my new fender. I was also able to drill the mounting holes so the fender holds itself in place! Mini-Win.
Forming this little panel wasn't too bad. I just used a drop of material that was a...
Next up is going to be front fenders....
Here is the chip board mock-up. I had to try a few different things to make it look NOT like a Jeep. I think the little front dip 'bill' helps that. These fenders are pretty small overall to stay out of the way. They only stick out about 1" past the...
Lets try to get back into the mini-update habit.
When I was messing around in the cabin space I decided to mount a heater. I decided to use the Summit Universal 30,000btu unit...
Progress yes, updates not too much. The forum traffic and questions have decreased a lot sadly since the photobucket thing. I share a lot on facebook(Brennan Metcalf) and instagram (brennanmetcalf) now if you need a quick fix....
I agree, making small consistent gains is when I find myself enjoying the building process the most. I don't like thrash fests....
Tonight I finished the rough dress down of the outside corners of the top panel after removing it. I also drilled and installed the rivet nuts for the top panel on...
Great work a usual. Good motivation to get my butt focused and back to work again. I've been stuck on trying to find a clear effecient path foreward to wrap this thing up.
Sorry, I have been slacking a little. FB and instagram make it to easy to do mini updates. I am still working on the top panel if that gives you any idea how much work that ended up being....
Phase one of making the top.
I don't know about this non-metallic stuff. It's all warm and full of life. Ew.
These ribs will come in handy to help define the shape of the main top panel to the same arch as the top of the windshield.
I also knocked up a new top die for my experimental...
