Yup. That is one of the major points of this build. The entire vehicle is incredibly thin really. Everything on the bottom was moved up and everything on the top was moved down.
I have entered it in the past 3 years since I completed the build. Everyone really seems to love it. I think it adds some contrast to all the stuff that basically spends its entire life in a trailer and hardly ever gets to go play....
My only suggestion would be to start with a YJ instead of a CJ. If you REALLY like the CJ nose you can swap that on easy enough. The YJ will be easier to find AND will have a fully boxed frame and a tub that was much more rust resistant. Finding them in good condition is a lot easier. The extra...
Car show this Saturday for Fathers Day weekend....
I make all the other cars look extra shiny!
It is always a fun day. I like the local show since its pretty short at only about 8 hours long total. I really need to get a chair with some shade for sitting at the show though! I felt pretty...
A few more details on the air system....
Here is my small aluminum tank that I installed under the rear of the body. It holds 1/2-3/4 a gallon of air. I have it plumbed so it sees the full pressure from the compressor. The ARB pressure control switch runs the air system up to 150psi before...
For sure, but in general, peoples expectations of the amount of gear a given vehicle can carry is overrated. You need to be careful not to overload the vehicle with all the STUFF you are taking. In my opinion people need to start paying more attention to how much gear they are taking and what...
I did a 13 day trip out of a flat fender solo.....
That was over 2000 miles of road travel and 300 miles of spring snow off road driving. The vehicle WITH me in it was 3460lbs total. The bare vehicle weight is just under 3000lbs. I am just about 180. So I had about 300lbs of gear total. That...
I've got polar opposites....
Each one has it's place. I did a 13 day 2000+ mile trip out of the little flat fender. You just need to pack accordingly. My general point is that I think a lot of people just want to take too much stuff. Do we really need all that stuff?
I still have my high school truck sitting back on the ranch in Idaho. It was a 78 shortbox 4x4 that I built way back when.....little lift, 35s, swapped a nice 390 in it, np435 manual, np205, etc. It was always a good truck.
I always liked that generation Ford. I would love to make a set of...
Uh......
There is a pressure regulator for the ox-locker in the back ( black thing ) and then the toggle switch for the locker on the front drivers corner.
The space directly under the ammo can is just a bracket that is kinda open so I can shove stuff under there. I think there is some WAY...
Very.
They never made a 4wd extended cab shortbed in that body style from what I can remember. I wouldn't let a little thing like a 4wd swap stop me :)
The biggest factor is weight.....
I would rather have a lightly loaded fullsize rather than an overloaded compact or midsize vehicle. Most people GREATLY overload there vehicles with WAY too much stuff. Once you add in the fact that you are taking the vehicle off-road and the durability starts...
Idea to make the fill pieces for the 2011+ more functional....
Maybe you could integrate some kind of LED strip light into the one opposite the hinge side to light up the work area with the door open.
I would make the later model as close to the same as the older model as possible. Then add in the two additional fill pieces to the top to make it work. That should eliminate the most cost and complexity I think.
A productive weekend. I didn't really take a lot of pictures though, my hands where pretty dang dirty with nasty stuff....
I got the rear axle all buttoned up. I ended up making a 1/8" aluminum shim for the diff cover. That fixed the clearance issue I was having with the shift fork. The rest...
I did at get a few other stuff done...
I bored the back of the full float spacers so I could add a seal. I couldn't find a boring bar so I had to improvise another way to make the counterbore with what I had.
I am going to us these seals I bought from Trail Gear...
