    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

I think the bolts in your first picture are for the overhead rack that you can clip a bag to. Not sure where your second picture is, but I was definitely struck by how many things were screwed into the roof. Even things like the shower curtain has like 6 tabs screwed into the roof. I'm not...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

It's here! First impressions are very positive, let me know if you have any particular questions I can help with. I'll do an in depth write-up once we've had some more time with it.

Looking for a flatbed cabover shell with cargo access

Hmm Space Kap sorta does what you're talking about but slides into a conventional pickup bed. Bison Overland has a flatbed shell model but it's a pop-up. Maybe one of the upcoming composite shells from Total Composites would work?

1/2 Ton vs 3/4 Ton for Family Adventures?

Curve ball suggestion: split the difference and get a Nissan Titan XD.

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

We're definitely excited, especially since we sold our previous Northstar last year in anticipation of the Scout and have been without a truck camper for a while now. We didn't order immediately, maybe a week or so after the release? Early enough to get in the first batch though. We got the...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

We've been bugging our factory contact at Scout and the CO dealer nonstop for updates and they both confirmed it shipped out last week. Haven't gotten any updates since, but I'm hoping to maybe pick it up this weekend. And great point about the bigger brakes too! Half tons are a great match...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

I see this misconception all the time. A 1/2 ton truck isn't really any smaller than a 3/4 or 1 ton, at least not in terms of width, height, or cab size. Fullsize single rear wheel trucks are basically all 80" wide. A Ram crew cab with the 6'4" bed has a wheelbase that's only 3" longer than a...

What will happen sooner... a Ford Gas vs Diesel dilema

Why not just carry some extra jerry cans on the bumper or even use some of the built in tanks on the flatbed to hold extra fuel? Hard to imagine truly worldwide adoption of ULSD in any reasonable timeframe.

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

In addition to not having the rooftop tent, the Yoho dinette beds are in an L shape and shorter in length than the equivalent double bed you get from the Olympic dinette. Your boys are pretty young now, but eventually they'd likely outgrow the Yoho beds. Our Kenai is supposedly en route to...

Advice selecting new HD truck (camper hauler)

Are you hoping to pull the tacoma at the same time as hauling the camper? If so, then I would lean more toward DRW. Sounds like heavy enough weights where the exhaust brake on the diesel would be helpful.

Advice selecting new HD truck (camper hauler)

As an owner of a 2016 Ram 2500 with a truck camper, I would really recommend against the 2500 for slide-in truck camper applications. The coil springs on the rear suspension of the 2014+ Ram 2500's are mounted inboard of the frame and lead to a lot of sway and poor handling with high center of...

Advice selecting new HD truck (camper hauler)

I'd go for a 1 ton SRW crew cab 8' bed from your favorite OEM. DRW struggles offroad or in the snow, and a SRW 1 ton should have a payload around 4000 lbs. Add a beefier sway bar and airbags if it needs extra support. RAWR on most 1 ton SRW's is around 7000 lbs and there are plenty of good...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

Thanks for the detailed pictures @Porkchopexpress! They definitely need an edgebander after seeing all those exposed plywood edges. It looks like maybe the veneer is already delaminating above the port-a-potti? I'm actually excited about the east-west bed. We're short enough that it's a...

    Question about Ram HD

Lots of stuff changed in 2013/2014. In 2013 the power and torque from the Cummins got bumped up and they introduced the HO motor with the Aisin tranny, plus the transfercase changed from NV Gear to Borg-Warner. In 2014 the 2500's went to a coil sprung rear end, front axles switched to a CAD...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

Just got word our Kenai is delayed as well. I'm told the unit is "built" but is waiting on some more parts. Scout thinks it will ship out in mid-February now. I also don't have much confidence in them or their suppliers avoiding any further delays. Pretty frustrated as it looks like I'll...

    Questions About Shocks/Springs Ram 2500

My 2016 Ram 2500 has the power hop bracket and extra shock but that's because it's a manual transmission. I believe that year only the power wagons and Cummins with G56 transmissions got it.

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

Definitely a helpful video. I didn’t realize the interior ceiling brackets were part of the roof tent mounting system. The video also shows how the center aisle isn’t really centered. It struck me how the door is really shifted to the driver side and there’s a lot of storage and counter space...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

After having gone through the experience of regular RV systems constantly failing, I'm really looking forward to this aspect. There's also a great video of the Yoho that just went up on Scout's instagram. The interior is basically the same as the Kenai forward of the wardrobe/mudroom so it...

    Scout Olympic vs Kenai

That’s an interesting way to use that exterior wardrobe hatch. I’ve been scratching my head about how to use it, got any other ideas on what it’ll be useful for?
