I had a 99 Ford Quigley Van and had the same idea to do my own SMB conversion.
Heating: I used a Hoda 2000i generator with a small space heater. Works fine for the cold weather. I spent many nights at Vail and Rabbit Ears Pass with it. I wouldn't use the generator if you were camping out...
Just got back from a trip to Moab UT. I thought this picture was really cool. 3 different types of truck campers. 1 very unique and rare.
The first one is a Wildernest camper on a 99 tacoma.
The 2nd is a 93 Lite-Craft NON cab over pop up camper on a 95 4banger tacoma. Lite-Craft only made a...
Sweet ride.
This winter i will be converting my 03 WR450 to dual purpose. I opted for the smaller engine due to the fact that it won't see too much pavement, esp no highway use.
Something like this may work
http://denver.craigslist.org/car/208511145.html
Just mount some tool boxes on the side and mount the bike on the tongue. just be carful of your tongue weight.
It will be pretty heavy overall.
I bought it on CL and it didn't have a name on it. I liked it bc it was aluminum and light. I didn't like it bc the bikeswayed around to much and if i had my camper on the handle bars would hit the back of the camper. I actually already sold it on CL. Owned it for the weekend.
I am...
I was thinking of getting the klr but as a beginner i thought it was too much bike for me to handle. After doing more research i learned that they really aren't best suited for offroad ruff trailriding. I have decided on buying a yamaha wr450 and buying a dualsport kit to make it street legal...
The only street riding that will be done is running around my neighborhood and a short non-highway commute to the office (or where i think my office may be..haha).
It already has a title. CO has some interesting rules in making an offroad cycle street legal. You basically just need to sign...
I've been considering a second form of transportation and have been going back and fortth with a street bike, dual sport bike or scooter. The scooter was a great option since i could park it pretty much anywhere but I've realized that I will probably be losing my job soon which is in the city...
I heard they delayed the release of that hard side pop up.
Alaskans are great campers major problem to me is that you have to instal the walls in the cabover when raising. In a snow storm or rain that makes for a wet bed. This is my new camper that I will test out this weekend
If you are looking at slide in campers like FWC then you are kind of opening a whole new world especially if you are driving a 3/4 ton truck. FWC is buy far not the cheapest on the market. They are more of a no-frills camper. Light weight is their huge advantage but as said before Oufitter...
I posted that thread on RV.net. I passed Earthroamer on my way to visit Phoenix campers. What a great looking rv.
My guess is that they will build on a dodge CTD. The original earthroamer was a dodge diesel and they moved to Ford probably due to it's GVWR capabilities on the F550 chassis...
So far so good. Off road use isn't the best. It's a little heavy. Also running a frig on propane while boondocking is a little bit of a pain. Mostly because it's a lot harder to find level ground.
It's pretty big so the space is great. I bought it for winter camping. I hope the choice to...
