To add to this, the OP's Chinese plastic hardshell pictured is not insulated on the top nor bottom shell so it's quite terrible for cold weather compared to autohome, alucab, or JB. those big 3 all include 20-30mm of insulation sandwiched in both shell halves.
Hardshells are just fine in the winter. THe tent you pictured is not very good quality. It is Chinese made and pretty mediocre for the 25% you save over an Autohome, James Baroud, or Alucab.
For cold weather, Autohome suggests the full pop ups instead of the wedge "A" tents. The tall ceiling...
@rino I've asked a few times across different platforms with no response. Do you have any info/availability on the side entrance awning? How does it attach? Does it stay attached when opening/closing? Cost?
Is there a gen 4 on horizon that may have the side awning integrated...
I'm going to go one step forward and ask what people do for shoe bags on a hardshell? All the shoe bags I have seen are meant to attach or hang under the unfolded half of the softshell. Hard shell has no overhang to store it.

Hey guys, feeling out to find a hardshell 2nd hand in/around AZ within the next month. I'd prefer to avoid chinese made and stick to JB, Authome, Etc but I could be convinced otherwise. Looking to around $2k give or take.
Thanks
Justin
My end goal is an Alucab! :) I'm also only 5'7", though. The alucab seems to have a really good overall fit and finish to it, IMO. I am in Arizona and the sun is brutal on fiberglass. I am rough on my gear and don't slow down much for brush. I also plan to skip the roof rack and mount all my...
You cannot store anything in the GFC aside from sheets. Pillows, blankets, comforters, ect all have to be stored in your vehicle.
If you are worried about the JB XXL width, take a look at Autohome XL's. their XLs grow mostly in length, not much in width.
The JB XXL is wide but honestly it's...
