If you go back to the original solid axle LR’s they were all pretty similar just like today. They all shared the same basic driveline, chassis, suspension, and the Discovery and Range Rover had very similar body structures. The Defender was always a more basic but beefed up Discovery just like...

I doubt they really went anywhere the last D4 was a 2016 that isn’t that old. I know of a few personally that went from early D4’s and D3’s to LC200’s but honestly not that many most have held onto their current trucks.

The only real tech I need in a car is a phone audio input and a good set of speakers. My phone and iPad can take care of everything else. However wade sensing is a really cool novelty. Basically a D3/4 without carpet would be my perfect vehicle.

True till you have to do injectors. Or an injector pump. I’ve worked on a lot of diesels in farm equipment and they can be a royal PITA at times. As an expedition vehicle I’d rather have a more basic EFI engine than any diesel.

My guess is improper TC setup in combination with the touchy brakes. Proper TC setup with ATPC enabled would make it much smoother.

The traction control is adjustable. You can control how much wheel slip you want. To me it looks like people are leaving the TC in the lest aggressive setting. I’ve seen D5’s do similar terrain as some of the videos of the Defender show and they don’t spin at all.

Yes you can “manually” lock the center and rear diff if equipped.

If the Defender had the factory locker it would make a big difference.

    LR3 V6 Engine Pre-Lube

Did you replace the tensioners? Also if you hold the throttle pedal to the floor when cranking it the engine will just crank but not start I can’t remember if it’s a spark or fuel cut. If mine sits for awhile that’s what I do. I usually do that for a cycle before letting it start.

Y’all are utterly clueless. JLR has true utilitarian workhorse in the pipeline. If you guys were true LR enthusiasts you would have realized this. The picture I posted previously is a pretty solid hint at what I’m talking about.

Kinda funny as this Bowler Dakar Defender and the New Defender are very similar from a mechanical stand point.
