I just found this cruising craigslist and thought someone here might be interested. Its not mine, I've never seen it, etc.

I have a set of 4 stock steel wheels from an 87 Toyota 4X4 Pickup with 31" BFG ATs on them. One tire is wasted and one other also needs to be replaced. The other two aren't bad, one is roughly a year old and the other is a little older than that. Price is $175 obo and location is Oxnard, CA.
My shell is one of the ones that failed somewhat recently but like Bella said, it was entirely operator error. The PO neglected to seal the gaps around the hinges at all so water got in and caused the metal hinge parts to rust through.
I'm glad you aren't worried about flex cause you aren't getting any from OME :) Check out trdparts4u.com for your OME needs. Their customer service is fantastic and their prices aren't too bad either.
I've got 2 of these boxes. They've survived a Mojave Road trip and a Death Valley trip with no problems. I walked all over them in my bed and they never cracked or complained.
Here's another vote of confidence for OME springs. They ride stiff on my truck if the bed is totally empty but once I put my shell on, they turned super smooth. Your 4Runner should ride nice and smooth all the time with the extra weight over the rear tires.
While I'm in the midst of accumulating the stuff I need to tackle the big fix, I decided it was time my shell had a legit front window. ntqsd gave me a new one so I had the front part of a shell just hanging out in my garage waiting for the install. I didn't take too many pictures as I was...
