Is she getting a snorkel for Christmas this year? :sombrero:
Congrats on LC200, and tell us some more about your Tundra (and those bumpers) over in http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/9576-Show-us-your-Toyota-4runner-tacoma-or-truck
Hard to beat the good 'ol ARB Bull Bar/Brush Bars/Side Protection Steps for frontal and down-the-sides protection.
Not cheap, but they'll probably outlast the vehicle...
Comet SBB-5NMO 2M/70cm...
I know it's been bandied about before, and I really just got mine, but I'll throw in another vote for the dual-band Comet SBB-5 - http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/8946-HAM-Operators-Post-up-here?p=1412691#post1412691
After reading lots of comments on ExPo...
After seeing the GX'ers on here (DanBrown, TexGX, etc) I won't discount it's abilities, but that face... Yikes. I wasn't too fond with the 2014 4Runner's refresh a couple months ago, but she's a lookin' not so bad now.
Oh well, I guess this what a Lexus is supposed to look like these days. I'm...
One of our local HAMs is a Venture Scout mentor (http://www.venturing.org/) and he's got a group of 5-6 teenage boys who are interested in becoming HAMs. They get on the evening rag-chew net with him once or twice a week and these BaoFeng handhelds have been recommended as the perfect way for a...
x2 on the spring inquiry. Front and Rear bumpers looks like Aluminess.
Yeah, I think anyone who has used their FJC finds out really quick that the rear storage area surfaces get all marked up rather quickly, sorta like a truck bed without a bedliner. And I share your feelings on the...
I will agree on that count. While the plastics are hard and show scratch marks easily, I rather like the fact that my FJC is relatively low-trim. If I wanted a better appointed interior I would have gone for something more upscale, but I wanted functionality first. To my enduring surprise the...
Oh yeah. Thanks for pointing that out. I quickly saw that it will pop back up on its own rather easily. I've got a short bungee that hooks between the coil in the whip and my spare tire mount if I need it held down.
I just mounted an SBB-5NMO on the back door of my FJC using a Diamond Antenna K400SNMO mount (http://www.diamondantenna.net/k400.html). Not sure about prospective signal/range loss due to a lower-than-roof antenna base height or the fact that it is so off-center from the ground plane of the...

Got my Tech a couple of months ago. Wanted something simple that I could use directly with the SMA antenna connection on my Yaesu VX-6R and other handhelds.
Diamond Antenna K400SNMO Mount with a Comet SBB-5NMO Antenna. The antenna actually folds over behind the back window for low...
Looks like you're off to a good start. That stuff clinging to your wheels and tires is one of the best 'mods' you can make on a regular basis! :safari-rig:
Amen to that sentiment. I put 200k miles on my last vehicle and had it for 13yrs. I can honestly imagine that I'll be driving/owning my FJC even longer.
If you find what works right for your life in the first place you don't have to worry about changing vehicles unless your life changes...
Man, has it really been that long since I added anything here?.. Well here's a few pictures of what I've been up to. Maybe not 'expedition-grade', but more like mini-ExPo-style, lol.
And that last crappy cell phone picture was actually the full moon casting a halo one night as I was...
Congrats on the new additions to both your family and your driveway! I like the way you called it on the FJC. It's true that it is not the vehicle for everyone, and yet it is a very versatile truck despite its well-documented compromises. If you're not Consumer Reports (who seem to compare every...
Actually all those pics are FJ Cruisers. The 4Runner has even more interior length (those lucky b@$tards) and a flatter floor as well (insert more jealous commentary). :sombrero:
I totally agree. I believe that is TruckBedz P/N 20 TCSB. There is a cheaper vinyl version, but since the heavy-duty...
I guess in the end it all comes down to preparation. I tried to sleep in the back on the spur-of-the-moment and it did not work for my height. However, christ0pher_m is right and I should have dug a little deeper for my previous reply. Having the rear seat bottoms removed would have helped me...
