Thanks for the info. I'm not happy to read that, but I'm OK with it. Take your time.

It would be valuable if you posted some, even very rough, estimation of how much time will you spend in the silent mode.

    Here's interesting discussion about a certain class 8 turbine-powered serial-hybrid truck: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/nikola-motor-company-reveals-its-class-8-tractor-33808.html

A pdf about the most popular solar racer motor: http://www.ata.org.au/wp-content/uploads/marand_high_efficiency_motor.pdf Just 12 kW peak and 5 kW continuous, so not directly applicable to TerraLiner (even with several per wheel), but I still find it interesting. :)

The only advice I can give is to ask them. They spoke about them on some conference, so they may be willing to talk.

Bio, I remember that I owe you a number of answers. But I can't get myself to think things through, yet from time to time I stuble upon something you may find interesting. Just got another one: A gas-turbine powered serial-hybrid prototype from GM...

You seem to be forgetting about engine durability. RV and marine users don't want engines that need to be replaced after 24 hours of work. Even if the ZEOD one is more durable than that and needs just a rebuild after the race, that's still unacceptable.

An inspiration link: http://www.designrulz.com/product-design/2012/07/colim-caravan-with-2-detachable-parts-car-and-mobile-home/ Also, efficiency of cells in a particular 2012 solar race car is 29%. http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/q-what-car-solarworld-gt-cd-0-14-a-20385-2.html#post289145

I will reply to your questions later. I'm barely following the discussion, often just skim through it and sometimes get lost. I need to put more effort to do it right. But I found one interesting information. http://www.sionpower.com/vehicles.html They claim to be able to do a 54 kWh battery...

There is also another reason. It may not be the primary one in city buses, but usually it is. There is a huge difference between the peak and the average power. You need a lot of it to accelerate, but much less to maintain speed. The difference is huge in the city, but it's big even on a...

Oh, right. 280 KW would charge at nearly 1C. Not any cell will survive that, but some will. You use CC-CV, so you charge at full speed up to c.a. 85% capacity. Let's assume 85% charging efficiency. 300 kWh*85% = 255 kWh. 280 kW*85% = 230 kW. 255 kWh/234 kW = 64 minutes. Then you switch to CV...

    1. Watermakers: A few months ago I would recommend spectra ventura, but since then they fielded a new unit that's both lighter and more power efficient: http://www.spectrawatermakers.com/products/marine/passport/ That's my primary recommendation. 4.2 Wh/l*300l/day=1.26 kWh/day The secondary...

Inverter is necessary. I suggest that you ask on endless-sphere.com or diyelectriccar.com forum for efficiency calculations. You'll find there many people who know the stuff much better than I do. Smesh can get practically no mechanical energy loss in direct drive and some real loss when you...

I forgot to reply to this part, so I do it now. I meant using the same motor in all wheels, but torque-multiplier (i.e.) gearbox in only some (4?) of them. This would allow you to use gearboxless (and more efficient) wheels to power the Terraliner most of the time and add the geared ones to...

Indeed. Cables+inverter+engine+gearbox. I have no idea how much you'll lose on cables. 2% for the engine is low, that's for the most efficient engines in the most efficient load. The most efficient is peak load. If your electric engines are larger than ICE can drive, efficiency drops. And you...
