Towing max capacity with a 5th Gen 4runner

I tow a travel trailer with my 4Runner... (a Casita 17). The Casita clocks in around 3300 to 3500 lbs fully loaded. The 4Runner tows it really nicely, but I wouldn't really want to tow anything much bigger.

One of the Coolest Small, Off-road Capable Camping Trailers I've Seen

From the looks of it, it looks like it means that it meets or exceeds the needs 95% of the users on this web site. I think they're being realistic that a trailer with a 6x6x12 box isn't going to be ideal for rock crawling but it will be fine on nearly every forest service road in the country...

Is This Even a Thing? New to Overlanding

Well, the 4Runner is a great choice to be sure. I have a 2015 Trail that I kept stock for ages. I upgraded the tires to 275/70-17 General ATXs last year which are about 32.25 Inches and kept it at the stock height. They work great and didn't rub at all. The only let down was that the stock...

    Ammo Can Campfire

LOL... maybe :p. I suppose my understanding of the vaporization of wax was inaccurate, and the oxidization of the paraffin around the wick is in fact combustion. My point was that it will not continue to burn when you have removed the ignition source the way a petroleum fuel and other biofuels...

    Ammo Can Campfire

I disagree.. the fuel is the cardboard. The melted wax retards the burning of the fuel. Wax in and of itself does not burn. Though I do agree with you that I'm not sure it's worth the risk of a ticket.

    Ammo Can Campfire

It's wax, not fuel. The only thing that is burning is the cardboard, and that's easy enough to extinguish.

Recommendations for a family ground tent.

We have a 12 Survivors Shire 6P tent, and for the money it's an absolute steal. It only costs about $200, and you can get it at Amazon, OpticsPlanet, Walmart, and a bunch of others. It's a dome tent, so it only has two poles, which are all aluminum as opposed to fiberglass. The two poles are...

    I'm cold! You can help!

If you're looking for a one bag solution, Wiggy's is probably the way to go. But since you said you don't care about bulk and weight, have you considered a military sleep system? They supposedly will take you from -50 to 50 degrees F. As for down... I live in the PNW and have a down bag. I...

What is the craziest recovery situation you made it through (or didn't make it through)?

I go back and forth on whether I need a winch or not. I'm certain that the overwhelming majority of the time I could recover with traction boards or a snatch from a friend... but seeing you in that predicament, man- that just made me pucker. Maybe I do need a winch??? :)

Just Picked up my first Overland project truck!!! 1996 T100, 3.4, 4x4, 240,000 miles. What to do first?

If you haven't seen it yet, there's a YouTube channel called TheTravelingTogetherJournal (they also post on the forums here). Aimee and Matt have a T100, and they toured Baja and Central America for more than a year in the thing. You might want to DM them, as I'm I betting Matt would give you...

    New Splitting Maul

You're price point is great, but IMHO 8lbs is overkill. You can pick up a 6lbs Husqvarna Maul for about $100 on Amazon. It will last you a lifetime, and would be something you could leave to your kids one day...

    Two Days in Yorkshire (UK)

These are great photos! It's nice to see trips in England/UK. There don't seem to be many photo essays about overland travel featuring the British Isles, so this is a treat. Thanks!!!
