Haven’t updated in a while. There have been a few changes. The front bumper is back from getting powder coated and progress has been made on wiring.
The rear bumper has come in and has also been powder coated.
Progress continues on the interior and wiring. Getting closer!
Once the truck...
Many of the 6.2s have run 250k miles and beyond without issue. Some have had lifter issues with the cylinder deactivation technology GM uses. Ram uses a similar system in their trucks. You can get an aftermarket tuner to shut this “feature” off, but then you are still stuck with the lifters...
More progress. Shield for the air tank and compressors has been mocked up and is ready for Raptor Lining.
The Warn Zeon 12000 pound winch has arrived and been test fit on the Off Road Design front bumper. We are waiting on the rear bumper to come in (hopefully this week) then both bumpers and...
Starting to look like a truck. It fired up for the first time! Making progress.
Cold Case radiator and dual 16” fans are in as well as a Derale Transmission cooler with underbody fan.
ORD crossover steering is mocked up and ready for powder coating and new steering box is in.
Dual ARB...
Body is back on the frame and the truck is getting wired.
The bumper is getting test fit and needs a little tweaking, but things are moving forward. Now on to lighting.
Thanks!
I haven’t found too many issues with these trucks so far after doing some reading.
The one thing so far I’ve come across is the push button transfer case controls and actuator can sometimes be problematic.
The biggest thing I found is “pump rub” with the transfer case, where the...
4 Door. I was looking for a 2 door, but couldn’t find one that was the right combination of mileage, condition, and price.
It was owned by an older gentlemen that passed away and his daughter ended up selling it to the dealer I got it from. I think in today’s devalued dollars for $12.5k I...
eBay plus some late night adult beverages got me in trouble. It’s a California truck with 87k miles.
So what am I in for with the Tahoe? I had an 89 and a 90 GMC Sierra way back when, so I’ve got a bit of experience with the GM throttle body 350s, and IFS, but that was a long time ago. Is...
It really feels good to keep this old truck alive and give it a second life.
Had I not bought it, the Suburban was about 1 more owner away from them extracting the last ounce of its life and sending it to the junkyard to get crushed.
That truck is awesome!!! Love the H2 wheels. I almost got a set of those. They look nice.
Glad to see you enjoying your Suburban with your family. Have fun!
I thought about it but I don’t think a doubler will be needed for this truck, but if need be the ORD Magnum under drive for the NP205 case would always be an option if I need more gearing later on down the road. But as you said with the low first gear on the 6L90E plus 5.13 axle gears I should...
Thanks!
Transfer case is already sourced and rebuilt. It will be an NP205 with the Advance Adapter kit to mate to the 6L90E transmission.
Steering will be crossover components from ORD. I hate to pay the price for it all, but it’s really the best way to go.
Body is getting there. Still needs cut and buffed. Should be finished this week and then it’s time for reassembly.
The axles should be finished this week as well. Things are starting to come together!
