    Anchor mountain Overland trailer

Hello all, I literally just finished building this trailer last month, it’s been on two voyages and tows amazing. Unfortunately life kicked my behind today and the chemical plant where I work is shutting down and we’re all being laid off. So here it is up for sale, I built the frame out of...

    Slipper vs shackle

My opinion is if you want a nice ride use some YJ leaf springs, I’m using OME extra heavy on my trailer and they ride super nice, plus being 48 inches long vs the common 25 of most trailer leaf springs has its advantages. Running all branes4wd hardware, shackles are 1/2 inch thick and all...

Sheet metal thickness for expo trailer w/RTT

The one I just built uses 12 gauge all around, it’s still light enough that I can easily move it by hand. Also lid is 1/8 aluminum. I don’t know if I would trust very thin material to hold the RTT

New trailer build using an Anchor Mountain Overland DIY kit

you're welcome, Justin over at anchor mountain has been great. He answered all of my initial questions and has helped me throughout the build with questions like axle placement and several parts. This trailer will see some action in May, towing it behind my brother-in laws Landcruiser 80 for...

New trailer build using an Anchor Mountain Overland DIY kit

Due to work and a busy life I haven’t had much time to work on the trailer, this weekend though I was able to finish up the brackets for the tub to the frame, got the lid mounted, loosely, still need the nuts and washers and I’ll be working on the rear door tomorrow.

Would of, Should of Could of.... If you could do it over again, What would you have done?

I'm still building mine but if I had one thing to do over again it would definitely be getting rid of mill scale on the 3x2 frame tubes first before welding everything up. It's much easier to sand some rust away than to try do deal with mill scale afterwards.

    Tubing size for max coupler?

It’s much easier buying an already made receiver tube and welding it on, don’t have to worry about the weld on the inside or trying to drill holes into 1/4 inch steel tube

    spring rate vs trailer weight?

I used Jeep YJ leaf springs on my trailer, I got the OME 2.5 inch lift heavy duty. They are 4 leaf spring pack and my trailers weight will be very similar to yours, my trailer isn't done yet but you can check out my build on this forum. They also offer the benefit of being around 48 inches...

    Trailer vs. Roof

I guess it’s going to depend on how heavy and high the trailer is, I think they both have their pros and cons. Biggest issue for me was having all the weight on the vehicle all the time, plus setting up and tearing down basecamp every single day. For me trailer hands down.

    Tongue Box Mounting

Ruffstuff makes some pretty neat weld washers that have threads in them, makes fabricating mounting points very easy

New trailer build using an Anchor Mountain Overland DIY kit

Flipped the axle over the leaf springs, looks much better and it’s perfectly even with the Jeep. Yes the tub is on backwards for now, not easy moving it around by yourself

New trailer build using an Anchor Mountain Overland DIY kit

Some big progress tonight, finally have a rolling chassis. I love the way the trailer looks but realistically it’s a bit too tall, will have to end up flipping the axle. Also did some testing with the fenders from compact camping solutions aka Dinoot trailers

New trailer build using an Anchor Mountain Overland DIY kit

I have thought about it and I’m still undecided, I figure for a bike rack I can add it on the rack where the roof top tent will be mounted to. I did add some towing point because I am also part of the “better have than not club”
