    Random Scenic Shots

I love the view from Yaki point early in the morning! Have shot there several times. How long you been driving the bus there?

Listeria Outbreak in Prepared Pasta Meals - check your freezer!

I know some folks take this as easy camping meals. The recall includes Trader Joes, Kroger, Albertsons and more. Six deaths, 18 states so far. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/nov/04/listeria-outbreak-deaths-pasta-kroger-trader-joes?CMP=oth_b-aplnews_d-1

Older Rig with upgrades vs Newer Truck near stock?

Get shocks with adjustable compression settings via a dial/clicker on the body or reservoir. Makes world of difference on and off-road, at least for my purposes.

    Random shots

Seen on the (hiking) trail today: And I thought I was tired by this point . . . . Even the Saguaro’s find the sun too harsh here . . . (unstaged, at least by me . . .)

Diesel heaters for tents and small trailers?

I noticed that Project Farm on YouTube has a review on diesel heaters. He does fantastically in depth tests and isn’t shilling for any brands. Didn’t watch it, but it might be helpful to you.

    2012 Tundra rear shock questions

For comparison purposes FWIW: My Ovrlnd on ’21 Tundra DC weighs 362#. Interior build adds about another 150. Wet weight packed for a trip is about another 200-250 +/- in the bed. With my backseat platform area packed, my wife and me and full tank of gas we’re at or 150— 250# above GVWR (as...

    Electrical

Glad to help! My whole set up was intended to be minimal and yet comfortable, and for us, so far, it is. It all depends on your needs/wants. What I did won’t support induction cooktops, 120v electric kettles, microwaves, ACs, etc, but after nearly 5 years so far, we haven’t wanted/needed...

    Electrical

I hard wired the fridge (with a fuse) directly to the battery through a hole I drilled in the side of the NLDCDC box. The ONLY way I want the fridge to be turned off or disconnected from power is via the power button on the fridge itself. To preserve the removability of the battery box I put a...

    Electrical

I did basically what you are planning with that same Blue Sea breaker panel and a National Luna DCDC Power Pack in my Ovrlnd. Works great nearly five years running. I added an external inverter, but later removed it as everthing is 12v and/orUSB. I do care a small 300 watt cigarette plug...

2012 Tundra Limited Overland Build. **Price update**

EP frowns on us commenting on for sale prices, but since you asked, and you seem like a stand up guy, I’ll give you my impression as if I was in the market, which I was for 2nd gen Tundra back when I bought my ’21 new ‘cause I just couldn’t find any good used deals here that fit my needs. Your...

    Pop up truck camper questions

@Spencer for Hire illustrates effectively how so much depends on personal preference, camping style, build out intentions, use case, etc, etc. I definitely agree the TG creates a new project for sealing against dust and moisture (kinda also depends on truck model as to how much of an issue it...

    Pop up truck camper questions

Lotsa good feedback here. Couple of additional things: — 3 big pop up advantages are lowered wind resistance, weight, and trail/branch clearance off-road. Topper pop-ups typically have better side clearance, though the Tunes and Project M’s are wider. — For many folks the inclusion of at least...

Fuel Tanks and Jerry Cans relating to Fuel Range

Well that absolutely sucks! I stand corrected and I'm gonna have to find a different approach. Thanks for sharing that. Edit: Since the video is posted here, I’m going to delete my original post so nobody can see a recommendation for these in isolation and not get the full story. Wish the vid...

    eye opener about gvwr

Agreed. I’m not saying we should ignore GVWR, but I am saying that depending on the truck and how it’s set up and driven that GVWR is a pretty squishy metric that is shamelessly manipulated by the OEMs. For example, my SR5 Off road Tundra has a payload that’s rated at 1350. My previous ’09...

    eye opener about gvwr

I’d like to point out your GVWR is 1,000 pounds lower than your combined gross axle weight rating (CGAWR). To my understanding the CGAWR is the standard that commercial trucks are held to for load capacity. My case is similar: GVWR is 7100 and CGAWR is 8150 (with the stock springs, wheels...

Arizona Strip / Grand Escalante / Canyonlands / Bear Ears - 15 day Solo Adventure - May 2025

Great trip report and pics! Thanks for posting the gpx files. I’m gonna try the Grand Wash route next time I go up there. I’m curious how bad the Hole in the Rock road washboards were? 2 years ago when I was on it they were the worst I’ve ever been on — thought they’d destroy something on my...

OVRLND CAMPERS ONLY : Post your OVRLND Camper build here or a link to your build thread to inspire others!

Yeah, they’re ridiculous. I just meant as reference to give you some ideas of how to do the gutter on any awning. I think the key is an awning that has the keder strip channel built in as the 23Zero does, or has a place you could add it. HD velcro could work too. It’s easy to add the channel to...

    Bronco - Jeep - 4Runner ???

Buy the lowest miles 5th gen 4 Runner with the rear locker and the KDSS (Toyota’s sort of sway har disconnect). Still made in Japan, up to Aug ‘24, I believe. The 4.0 V6 is one of, if not the best, engine’s Toyota ever made. I‘ve driven 3 of them (2 Tacomas and my wife’s current ‘18 4...

Rubber, plastic, vinyl. Works very well for UV protection. Alu cab has one for their 270° awning. Might give you some ideas. Here’s how I did mine
