Sorry for the late response, I was carried away enjoying our truck, which has been working flawlessly since we fixed this issue!
What I did was change the old alternator for an OEM Toyota remanufactured one:
as well as change the fusible link wire, which I'm now pretty sure was the...
Thanks for your useful responses.
I just ordered an OEM Toyota remanufactered alternator from a dealership at the closest city from our location (4-hour drive; fortunately they will have it available in a couple days). Last time we drove the truck, smoke definitely was billowing from the...
Dopesick, must one of the (+) battery cables (the one from battery to fuse block) be a fusible cable or can it be replaced with a normal cable? I know the 80 AMP fuse in the fuse block is connected to a white fusible cable, but I'm not sure if it's the same cable mentioned here.
Battery I just...
Thanks for your useful replies. I'm sorry for my late response, but I just got hold of a wifi signal.
So I started by checking my battery cables.
I started with the (+) cables. THIS I found after cutting the sheathing on the one that goes to the fuse box:
As you can see, there is some...
I haven't replaced the alternator, as the OEM one takes very long to be available at mexican dealers, and as I don't foresee any reliable solution using a remanufactured one, as they represent the same story (repeatitive failures) from what I've read in forums.
Our alternator has been tested by...
Our truck is a 94 manual 4WD xtra cab 22RE.
We're facing recurring alternator failures. Have been searching and reading numerous related threads on this, but we are somewhat lost. This is the status:
Two failures in the last month, 3rd failure yesterday.
First 2 failures have been the...
No, truck was completely stock. Stock gears, stock transfer case, etc. It even had 25 years-old Bilstein-Toyota shocks still mounted in the back. Truck has over 240 k miles.
UPDATE
I just noticed something that more than likely will change my decision:
The original axle shaft has only 1 original (stock) wheel stud left. The other 5 studs are not original as they are in fact shorter in length. This will be a problem for fitting a set of OEM Toyota alloy wheels I...
All right then.
I decided it's best to keep using the original axle shaft. Maybe try to smooth out the nick edges, probably leave it as it sits, don't want to make it any worse.
Does anyone know what purpose those tabs at the outer face of the wheel mounting flange have?
All right. So I'm guessing this (on the OTHER original axle shaft) deserves the same treatment?
Sorry for my ignorance, but what area is this? Is it somewhere on the axle shaft or are you talking about the wheels/rims?
Hi everyone.
My truck is a 1994 4WD Pickup Xtra Cab, 22RE manual.
I need help on a dilemma. Here's the issue: when replacing the rear axle shaft bearings, one of the axles was nicked when removing the retainer. The nick is hardly 0.5 mm deep. I don't use my truck for wheeling, but I do use it...
Could someone please share a photo of their driver's side torsion bar from this angle? It appears that my driver's side torsion bar is noticeably misaligned with respect to the upper control arm shaft. Passenger's side is not misaligned. I would think this is not normal.
Thanks in advance.
Well crap. So probably the frame is also bent .
But the question ultimately is: HOW SAFE do you think it is to keep and drive this truck, as is?
As I said, alignment can be configured for it to drive perfectly straight, only (apparent) downside being the front left tire will...
Here are some photos of the frame:
And then there's this:
RIGHT (Ok side) Upper Control Arm and Torsion Bar Mount - see alignment in green circle:
Compared to the LEFT (Bent side) UCA-Torsion Bar Mount:
It happens when, for instance, having the left wheel turned halfway left, and at the same time the suspension on that side compressing-decompressing, as when entering a ramp. Other times, the sound comes simply from, wheel straight, the front end compressing and decompressing while driving over...
Hi everyone. Here's my 1994 22RE XtraCab pickup  (besides Popocatepetl volcano in Mexico):
Very clean truck, been working on it since early this year when I got hold of it.
So here's the deal:
Previous owner apparently hit a curb or something with the front driver's side tire...
