What’s the latest on the best RTT?

There's sort of two questions here: 1) What design of RTT is the "best" in 2025? 2) What company has the best execution of said design in 2025? The reason I split the questions out is that there has been a lot of innovation in the RTT space over the last decade. It used to be that everyone was...

News Flash! Americans don't want expensive and unreliable cars😳

Even more evidence that you got an incredibly good deal! I think that's the truth of it - the raw price of the vehicle is irrelevant but the price relative to other vehicles is very much an important factor; they aren't charging the value of the construction +10%, they are charging what the...

News Flash! Americans don't want expensive and unreliable cars😳

Congrats on the great deal! Toyota doesn't deal often and not to the degree that Jeep does. Occasionally they want to move last year's models so there can be deals had, but, we don't often see it in the 4x4 space with Toyota because there's usually not a lot of 2024 models of, say, the 4-Runner...

News Flash! Americans don't want expensive and unreliable cars😳

It's great to see so many folks who have been well served by their Jeeps! But, individual experiences with a particular vehicle aren't relevant to other buyers really - they are only relevant to the buyer who had the good experience, and maybe a trusted friend or two. I'm not surprised...

Need a bit of help Re: Jeep Warranties

This won't make you feel better but I can promise they didn't say that to your daughter because she's an American. They say the same stuff to us here in Canada all the time! For example - my throw out bearing went after about 25,000 kilometers on a new JK and was told that I'd have to put up...

    Starlink and Video Calls

I have the Mini and have been testing it the last few months both at home and on a big trip. It works great for 99.9% of the time, and my obstructions are minimal for the most part and I would describe them as similar to yours. I have 98.47% ping success rate, but it doesn't work great for video...

    Toyota Losing it's Mojo?

Hang on, I gotta pretend to be a Toyota hater for this joke: If they are so reliable and long-lasting why'd you have to buy so many of them? ;) I am kidding of course, I love Toyota's contributions to the 4x4 world. All jokes aside, no I don't think Toyota has lost it's mojo (though I am sorry...

    Santana/Defender 110 Overland Build Cummins R2.8

The beast has a nice racing stripe on the hood. The beauty looks great in the background. ;)

    What Half-Ton Truck & Why

As Expo's resident "Mid Size Evangelical", I will chime in here to say: Prices are similar, and so are specs - I've shared this before but the differences in payloads can sometimes be a scant couple hundred pounds. In some cases, there are full size 1/2 tons with lower payload than mid-sized...

    Is there life without propane?

I generally prefer cooking over gas - induction can be faster to boil a pot of water, but gas is quite versatile for all sorts of cooking tasks - but I also 100% appreciate the OP's question as I despise having to carry multiple fuel types with me everywhere. ASPW of 4xOverland on YouTube did...

Review: Go Overland Canada Expedition XL Tent

Part 2: Good Tent Details: The tent fabric is good and as advertised, so let's talk a bit about the features of the design: It's got a great big skylight with a clear plastic window on it. Our prior tent had skylights but you'd have to remove the rainfly to see the sky; with this tent you can...

Review: Go Overland Canada Expedition XL Tent

Hi folks, We've recently acquired ourselves a new "Summer Home" in the form of a Go Overland Canada Expedition XL tent. We've only got 6 nights in it so far, but I wanted to share a bit about our really positive experience with this tent. Part 1: (Forum Word Count doesn't like longer threads)...

    JK Roof Racks

I ran a Gobi Stealth on my JK, and @NatersXJ6 summed up the pros and cons perfectly, but I'll add one more con: Weight. The Gobi Rack is heavy for what it does, partially because of it's advantages (tying into the frame) but also partly because of it's disadvantages (the ladder that doesn't work...

Another Rhino Rack Disaster Class, And How I Think You Can Avoid Being Like Me

Grateful for you sharing your experience. When we buy equipment from any vendor, it comes with some expectations, and when those aren't met it takes someone posting up their experience to teach others with that same equipment what to look out for on their own kit. I like the "one is none and...

CPT (Composite Panel Technologies) Slide In Camper Shell Build, AKA "Yes, Dear, I think this will definitely be my last one...."

That's an exceptional total camper weight for a rig this size, in my opinion. I'm on a mid-size rig and I'm not too far below that myself, and the fact is a bigger rig = more material to box it in = more weight, so that's another testament to your design, materials, and build. Very cool rig -...

CPT (Composite Panel Technologies) Slide In Camper Shell Build, AKA "Yes, Dear, I think this will definitely be my last one...."

And get it right you did! Great build. I think your use of CAD (cardboard :P) was more than just a pun - that's a brilliant way to do a buildout like this and I'm surprised I don't see that more often. Great idea. I see on CPT's website that they reckon these are only about 500 lbs dry -...

ARB Prado 120 bull bar on GX470... Kinda fits...

Not the same rig, but I did a similar "Should Fit" gamble on my GM Canyon. 100% agree with the OP on this one. I looked at a lot of brands but ARB consistently had the highest quality of design to my eye - better mounts that seem to displace force over a larger area than the competitors.

URGENT - RV solar panels and sky light (rooftop window)

I'm very sorry to hear that. As the saying goes - "Adventure starts when things go wrong" so I hope this start to your adventure is just a chapter in an otherwise great story. Good luck on getting things sorted with insurance!

What route software, if any, offer height, width and weight limitations if any?

The RV world have a few people who really like this resource - I've not used it myself but I understand it's a data set that is compatible with several GPS units and mapping platforms and it allows you to manage your route based on truck height and width - I'm not 100% sure about weight...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

100% correct, the ropes in this type of situation would connect without a shackle. No secret 4x4 logic on my part, just poor logic when I wrote my original post. When I wrote my prior post I was thinking specifically about how most aftermarket bumper manufacturers cut their shackle mounts out...
