Thanks for the insight, Howard. Though not an EC owner, I’ve long admired them and almost pulled the trigger a couple times — to the point that my wife and I made a trip to Bend to check them out. I am a business owner and understand the trials of keeping an enterprise running and relevant. Sad.
Thank you for the reply and pictures. It seems the ideal setup to me; fairly low profile when driving or parking in a garage and then near instant extra space and headroom or sleep space. Do you still have the rig?
Farfrumwork, I'm very intregued by your low topped Sprinter with a pop-top. I've searched a bit for other images of your van and found one with the top up. is the point of the pop top to add headspace or just for sleeping space? Where/who did the work? Thanks.
I'm saddened to hear that EC is closing shop. One snippet from their annoucement email:
"Despite EarthCruiser's many successes, changing market dynamics and economic challenges have made it increasingly difficult to sustain operations going forward. The decision to close the business was not...
Erik, I loved the video, mostly your enthusiasm, drive for excellence and genuine spirit. You made a fantastic rig for temperate/warm climates -- how do you suppose this would perform in the cold and snow? Is the plumbing able to manage sub-freezing without significant modification? Joe
Hi, your rig looks interesting. A few questions:
Is the rig in Gunnison, CO?
What mileage does the chassis have on it? Same for the engine? Is this a diesel?
What is the gross vehicle weight dry/wet?
What type of air-conditioning could be added and at what cost?
Thank you,
Joe
Hi, Tim, a few quesrions:
1. Is the rig currently in St. George?
2. I see the engine only has 2450 hours on it. Was it replaced or rebuilt or is that the amount of hours typical for the mileage?
3. Is there a pass through portal between the cab and habitat?
4. Do you have a floor plan you can...
That is one slick drawer! I’m in the process of designing a similar drawer setup for the back of my Tundra. My current design incorporates 8020 extrusions for the frame and Baltic birch plywood for panels and drawers. Instead of carbon fiber (which looks so cool) I was going with scuff-resistant...
