Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

I don't see how it would add more interior space, but it would make getting in and out of the trailer easier by raising it up. I don't know if a narrower wheelbase and higher center of gravity would affect stability too much, and I'd have to have a more complicated setup underneath to bolt the...

Hey if it works almost as well as a specialized solution but costs a fraction of the price...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

I mean yeah i did make a design that uses a twin/single sized mattress that's about 45" wide, but I was sorta hoping to make a double size that holds two people. but most of the parts bolt or screw together so i suppose if it comes to that i can make a new shell and transfer all the more...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

Alright, I think i have the design basically figured out. Excluding screws and bolts and paint the trailer will weight around 200lbs and will cost me about $2,000 before shipping, well within the limits I want to stay within. I'm waiting for my request to join the tiny trailers forum to be...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

canvas soaked in paint is popular on the Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers forum as Poor Man's Fibreglass, I read dsomewhere else someoen using truck liner but I didn't find that again. I'll likely use it on the outside anyways as extras protection against rock chips and the like 80mph/130km/h...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

yeah i should get the book. it seems that everything still largely works if i jump down to 8" tires, but I have to be careful to make sure i get ones rated for 80mph as most of them aren't lowered the roof while i was at it, but I still want the luggage area in the front for a few reasons.

finally stumbled across this gem which makes perfect sense and... ********. I'll have to redesign and figure out how to work around the wheel locations

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

I'm just using plywood for the floor, I haven't found a good substitute that isn't really expensive or impossible to find. I did get my wires crossed and somehow thought mdf would be suitable but I'm past that. I'm looking at Reinforced Polyurethane Foam but there's nothing nearby that sells it...

that is very cute actually. Won't work on my class II hitch with a 150lbs max tongue weight but it's still cool

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

that's partially why i want the torsion axles. if you use a traditional axle what one wheel does effects the other, while split axles are completely independent. And I can get torsion axles dialed down to a 700lbs load capacity, which should reduce the bouncing as I'm not using axles rated for a...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

1.5" ridged insulation foam and a fibreglass-alternate skin using truck liner reinforced with canvas fibers. I might glue 1/16" wall panels to the inside of the insulation for more reinforcement and to give the inside a stronger surface so random bumps doesn't dent it. When applying the canvas...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

yeah they are all 2x2x.125" tube except for the little guy in the back which is 1x1x.125", but maybe it needs to be 2" also. true i can reduce the frame a little. considering the trailer is fairly short and the tongue uses a straight bar I can extend it to the axle beam, if I have only one...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

a bolted together aluminum frame using 2x.125" square tubes for the main frame and 2x1x.125" tubes for lateral supports would work, right? pricing it out it doesn't seem so bad compared to the quote for steel channel i got. Sorry I'm still trying to figure out the best design so i keep...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

Ok yes I'll go with plywood instead of mdf. but looking at structural load tables it seems that it is far safer to only have 12" between supports instead of 24", by like a LOT. I might switch to tubing, but I'm still a little concerned about rust inside the tubes. I realize I can just cap them...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

i do need to look at how other people are doing their doors. i want something sturdy that seals in case it rains or something (and at least keeps the moisture outside), and unless I construct a heavy door frame from scratch the only other solution i found was to buy a premade door that can be...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

Thanks for the heads up. I did consider a trailer kit but the ones that I could find were either too long or too short. Making it out of scratch costs no more then $800USD for the frame, axle, and tires and weighs 150lbs or less. I can find steel trailers that are cheaper but considerably more...

Questions about design for ultralight bed-on-wheels (codename: Siesta)

Hi I wanted to get a sanity check and part sourcing recommendations for a trailer I'm planning to build to tow behind my Fiesta. All I want is something that has hard walls so I can jump in and get comfortable even when it's wet or chilly outside instead of tenting. So far the concept I've come...
