Will Jeep and Ram Truck Prices Take a Steep Dive Soon?

Well as a near(ish) term buyer of a 4x4 Class C on a 5500 chassis I'm concerned! And the RV manufacturer in question is also concerned. So much so they are likely to move to Ford F550/600. So now I sit back and wait with popcorn in hand and park my $$ until there is some clarity in the market...

Question about expedition vehicles in Canada

The other challenge may be that you can't get motorhome financing vs having a commercial chassis and then adding a box on top. Plates, insurance etc can be a challenge. One of many reasons we elected to move on from a custom imported box and back to a manufactured motorhome brand.

Which of the big three 3/4 tons would you look at and why?

Where is the closest dealer that can and will service the truck? For around here RAM dealers are disappearing left and right. That means parts support and repair will go 3rd party. Not always a bad thing, but something to pay attention to. Also GM seats suck for me. Ford are good and RAM...

    Freedom Camping in NZ

We were there a year or so back. South Island mostly. It would appear similar to EU. IE lots of parking lots called camp grounds and then when green stickers allow, dispersed camping style. I wouldn’t expect to camp near towns…

Nomad Euphoria RV - Interesting option

Eu does. My only guess is lack of inertia on the NA industry’s part.

I went to look at what that meant and there are a bunch of floorplans. Might be useful to say which one you have. They range from 23 to 30'!

New Scout Electric SUV from VW

Given that mileage can reduce 1-2% per 100# of tow, that means a 5000# trailer reduces range by ~50%. I'm not sure if that holds true for EV or not, that's a gas mileage hit based on generic averages etc. But that means you'll be overlanding on mostly gas power. For me, 90% of my driving is...

New Scout Electric SUV from VW

Very true. Have had a few VW over the years but the 87 GTI 8 valve was the best built ever. Current owner of a 22 Atlas Execline and like my 18 it’ll be mine till the day the warranty is up then back to VW. FWIW the Atlas is ~$30k less than an equivalent Jeep Grand Cherokee and ~$50K less...

New Scout Electric SUV from VW

Very fair points. I guess it's more of an image problem than a tech problem. Around here every 2nd KIA that's new appears as an EV. Yet you go to a VW lot and have 1 choice, and it's kinda weird looking. If they chose to take that eTron tech and put it in 50% of their platforms instead of a...

New Scout Electric SUV from VW

The tow capacity and range extender options are the winner here. And eventually when the batteries get better range they'll just kill that option. Tow a Bruder or such behind and you've got a pretty sweet set up. Excess solar can be back charged into the truck when at camp and when driving.

New Scout Electric SUV from VW

My guess is the independent part was a deliberate move by VW. No technical debt by having to use some other division's nuts and bolts etc. VW is way behind on the EV front. This allows them to steal parts and tech back into other brands. IE anyone not think an EV Atlas will be born out...

PSA on fire safety with Lithiums

And I think the less reliable the source of the battery will also contribute to the risk. Sure a Tesla can go up, but the cheap junk tablet you got of Alibaba is likely a higher chance...

Will Jeep and Ram Truck Prices Take a Steep Dive Soon?

That's the root issue though... 1000's of low margin vehicles vs 10's of 1000s high margin vehicles (with bells and whistles). the stripper Jeep you describe is great for Uni kids, off roaders, and any motorhome owner with a 5k hitch on the back for a TOAD. My guess is the total addressable...

RV & Camper Prices vs Inflation

IMHO the only constant across countries, generations, geopolitical situations is the cost of a beer. You can compare Phoenician era beer to 10th century china to London during WWx or North America in the 70s or today. The cost of a beer vs average wage will tell you how the society is doing.

Will Jeep and Ram Truck Prices Take a Steep Dive Soon?

Fleet trucks aren't really all that profitable per unit is my guess. Stripped down vehicles are a volume play. Consumers aren't a volume play. Toys, bells and whistles sell. And there is margin in those toys bells and whistles. How many times here to you see a post that starts with "I found...

Solid state batteries will make electric expedition vehicles practical.

This is good progress for sure. When samsung introduced their 30TB flash drive ~8 years ago, it was the same price as a Honda Accord. So yeah, time (and market volume) will definitely solve some of the cost issues. Having said that, when the volume increases this will be like NiCaD to LiFePO4...

Will Jeep and Ram Truck Prices Take a Steep Dive Soon?

my concern is if I get a screaming good deal but there a no dealers left to update all that software...... But I agree, it's more than just inflation causing prices to go up. That is fixable when sales slow down, demand goes down, supply is up therefore the only fix is lower prices to increase...
