Does the tranny make noises in high torque conditions? My truck isn’t far from stock power but the tranny is as Smooth and quiet as any manual I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t be surprised if that changed with turning it up though. Maybe experiment with fluids overfilled of course. My taco was a...
I know it’s not much of a camper idea since it’s an off the shelf four wheel camper but the whole rig was a culmination of ideas from a couple decades of different builds with overlanding as the focus. Honestly besides being loud I’d say the first gens are a perfect platform to build off. The...
Awesome that everything you’ve needed has been found. Such a bummer Suzuki parts for these things are drying up. seems Like a rebuild like that may be just about impossible soon. Have you been hitting up trail tough for parts? They have always been helpful and seem to maintain a Suzuki...
I need to plate the belly on mine. Being low picks up every stick and tries to jam it some where it seems like. Had one jam up against the belt a while back. I’m in the woods though so that might not be as much of a problem for everyone but it does it more than anything I can remember driving.
Nice. I pretty much got as far as a body lift and some Craigslist mudders on mine but it’s been a hoot. Puts a smile on anyones face that takes a ride in it. Gets driven in the dirt almost every day with very little tinkering
Smaller wheels are better off road in general I think. I like as much rubber as possible on my rigs so small wheel big tire. Makes a big difference in ride comfort and traction when aired down
If you can make your welds look like that I’d think you would like to show that off. As a fabricator maybe I see them different. They do stand out because usually aluminum boxes have more bent seams showing. I think it looks awesome but I’m curious why the whole door pockets are welded in...
**************! more pictures the better of that awesome truck and bed combo. I hope that bed cost a fortune because that looks like it took some serious time and skill to fabricate. I built a bed around my four wheel camper like that in theory but that thing is in a different league of elegance. A...
He says he has air bags. One thing to check if you find the air bags don’t improve your stability is if they are on independent lines. I’ve heard sometimes people tee them together in which case air pressure can freely flow back and forth between them not helping sway. If they are independent...
Id get a new set of leaf springs in the rear that match your load. Your springs are too soft whether they always were or sagged with age. With a dedicated camper set up you have a much easier task than a normal work truck that needs to ride acceptable but has drastically varying loads. Trying...
Sweet build. I’m wrapping up a frame off resto on my trusty 1990 f350 right now. I would go arb for lockers without a doubt. I put that same aero tank in mine and I guess I lucked out because mine came lightning fast and that wasn’t too long ago. Look forward to seeing the progress. i...
Does it have the steel front end? You’ve probably seen the pj one on pirate if you’ve looked around at all and the way his aluminum one broke looked pretty weak. I think with good tires and the steel housing I’d feel pretty confident. I haven’t wheeled mine much because it came with brand new...
Wow, I’m pleasantly surprised you have such big plans for it. mines actually really nice although it’s trying to rust which is weird for it’s age and condition around here (norcal). I’ve just been fixing all the little crap like making all the windows and locks work and that type of annoying...
Yep, I have a 2000 vitara that I think is the same rig as that. i haven’t had it that long but I’m pretty into it. I was a samurai guy for a couple decades so I kinda dig Suzuki but am a little concerned about parts availability these days. Sucks because literally nothing I know of fits the...
Thanks for the reply. I pulled the trigger on one yesterday. 4cyl auto 4x4. I’m pretty pumped on it. 84k miles and looks like it hasn’t been used too hard and doesn’t have any mods or hackery (yet). The air actuated diff for 4x4 doesn’t seem like the greatest way to do it from a reliability...
