I wouldn't expect it, but I suppose it's possible. It was all four fillups on this trip, regardless of direction.. I need more data before I can be sure this is a permanent change, I guess. But it is the first time I've ever seen more than 11mpg.
I guess a cumulative change is possible...
Yeah.. I'm definitely not complaining. I want to go on a long trip now!
I guess I need to drive it w/out the bikes to see if that is what's doing it. But, that requires a long drive on the highway to duplicate the situation. Would be easier if I had an MPG display!
It's such a big...
This is a somewhat strange situation.. My MPG has increased 1.5x or more. I have a 2012 Tacoma. Four Wheel Camper flatbed camper on the back.. I don't have an instant MPG readout, so calculate it by tank of gas.
I have always gotten 10 MPG. Sometimes a little less, sometimes a little...
Man, looks like that truck is having FUN! That's a great pic.
I said I'd follow up in a week, but my couple hour impression of the new AccuTune Fox suspension.....
Definitely better w/ most things.. Potholes, cracks in the road, surface feel, etc, which is what I wanted. The adjustability...
So anyway.....
I'm still alive, at least several trips across the country in my 7500lb taco, since I last posted.
My suspension is (until tomorrow) OME Nitrocharger Sport, w/ the heavier, 660lb springs. Rear are a Deaver pack made for the weight, w/ airbags for load adjustment and...
Yeah, our world is not efficient. Privatization and deregulation hasn't helped anyone but the rich. Back when this all happened we were a much more socialist nation, and things got done.
But this is the world we live in now. We can sit around and complain and stagnate... Or go out and keep...
I've got 175Ah batteries, and never use their capacity. I've got a 12v fridge.
The sun keeps the fridge running and gets the batteries charged fully, on the shortest day of the year, mid US latitude.
Other than the fridge, there's a minimal amount of light, fan or blower, and charging things...
I read a paper a couple years ago which addressed this... And it said the change to air conditioning in peoples homes 70 years ago, was a much bigger change to the power grid, compared to if everyone got an EV now. And, that change went perfectly smoothly 70 years ago. I'm sure the utilities...
I have surface pooped at a festival. (Technically a big outdoor rave.. back in the 90's :) )
People gotta poo. And festival goers aren't allowed to bring shovels. And organizers don't seem to ever have a concept of how much people poo so porta potties are always overflowing. Good times... I...
I'm w/ you on your forest service rant. Their hypocrisy is more vast than the lands they manage.
I hear stories of the super nature loving rangers closing down camp sites and trails because us bad campers are messing up a little piece of nature.
But then I drive away from the curated section of...
How much gray water are people generating? We follow general backpacking rules. Which is we use biodegradable soap, minimum quantities, and minimum water for everything. We don't make more than a gallon or so a day. And........ It goes right onto the ground, no matter where we are. We...
Your build is really great!
And as others have said, very impressive how much you're doing! Especially with kids!!! I used to take on pretty advanced engineering hobby projects with lots of planning and year long builds, etc.. But not after having a kid! (My son has that same NASA shirt).
Yes, stoptech rotors.. Also sold as "centric" w/ the same part number. I got mine here:
https://dirteverywhere.com/search?searchterms=Centric+126.44129CSL
(They appear to have botht the stoptech and centric branded ones in stock at the moment)
(You need a right and left.. That's just the left...
I did.. and I'm not sure if I followed up here.. (I had a few threads on my bad brakes at various places).. But, it worked. After new rotors, pads, adjusting the rear drums, and then doing the techstream bleed... I can now slam on the brakes and lock up the wheels! First time ever.
Has anyone stored their camper away from home?
We're wanting to leave ours around Vegas for a couple months. Then fly back out to continue the trip and drive it home.
We want something covered, I think.. Mostly because we think it will be more secure.
I've found RV storage which can get...
I've got skinny 235/85r16's on my tacoma. They're great. No problems. Even in soft sand, I drive right through where I see others getting stuck. Not sure how, but I'm not complaining. (My guess is my super heavy truck and relatively small contact patch is perhaps compressing the sand enough...
I'm not happy w/ my WildPeaks.. They seem 'bouncy' compared to my previous ko2's. I feel a little jiggle over every bump. And, they flex more in corners. Which I also have been blaming on the thinner sidewall than the ko2's. But maybe the tread is doing it, as Drax mentioned.. But I do...
The truck came w/ these tires. Previous owner says because of bad fuel mileage.. He said it helped. (had 285/75r16's before). I like them because personally, I haven't had any problem w/ them in a lot of rough conditions.. including deep snow and soft sand where others were getting stuck.
But...
Thanks a LOT for this reply. It's very helpful. I spent the last two days doing brake work.. Just being double sure there's no air in the lines. I got a techstream and did the ABS bleeding procedure several times. No change in performance.. but at least now I'm confident this is just how...
