With that lead off, some minor updates are actually likely in order.
Installed the GMRS (Midland MXT575) and went with the rugged antenna up front, b/c, well, b/c. (Midland MXAT03)
Put some Maxtrax in the back. Debated mounting them, decided to just go pure functional and put them in a Blue...
My bad-was early and I wasn’t really firing. Good call out, here’s the link:

Ah, from what I remember we didn’t run into issues because I sourced the combo gauge from AUS too:

Dobinsons helped, spacers will help, but won't change is the driving factor of weight.
Sadly all the stuff may serve a purpose but also detract from the truck. Broadly speaking with every build I have done I have now come to believe that every mod is a compromise that impacts the system of...
Minor updates. Some refinement to the rear setup:
Added in the track for less warping in the sun and eventual add on.
After about six months of running the turbo as-is, with no major issues, I did decide to start doing a few mods on the fringes for longevity.
Turbo blanket
Along with some...
Air compressor switch was a pre-wire setup for eventual compressor either in the bed or maybe under it. No real room under the hood. I want to get to OBA but have been swamped so the truck just gets used as is.

Bed cover mods closer to completion.
Hatches were added to facilitate getting into the sides without opening the tailgate.
Ended up putting some MOLLE in to further close off the compartments.
Small locks for a little bit of security on the right side
Added spin off hatches over the wheel...
So…it’s a bit of a light show, shades of blue throughout the cabin. Given the vintage, I think it all works. Not optimal, but again, given the vintage. With the radio, the dual battery, and the gauge it all works.
Boost and EGT is a combined gauge from Just Racing Parts: https://www.justraceparts.com.au/jrp-edge-dual-52mm-digital-boost-egt-gauge-kit-diesel?gclid=CjwKCAjwv8qkBhAnEiwAkY-ahtm8jvCB98lBG2H668B6Kkv9pZ3kdHg1MICf9fP8z9PfwvHLxyfWaRoC9B0QAvD_BwE

I may, in all likelihood I’ll keep it somewhat clean but build a bracket to hold maxtrax, shovel(s) and the like that would rest on top along with some S track to facilitate modular retention of things. The nice thing about the old school bed is for day to day you have the tie down points on the...
Building out a rear storage setup to cover the bed. V1, next stage will bring hatches into play for access to the sides without dropping the tailgate. Plan is for recovery stuff, OBA, and potentially tools/spares there.
EZ tube aluminum frame.
Baby band saw for the cuts
Starboard King for the...
Small update.
Truck stock oil pressure gauge never worked. During turbo install and subsequent alternator fun it became apparent the sensor was unplugged. Specifically the wire had been cut.
After a lot of fun finding a Toyota 1/8 28 BSPT threaded tee and such, along with a 45 adapter for...
So true. I didn't realize there was a market for LED tinting products till I looked for something to calm this down.
When I travel I carry a roll of electrical tape in my luggage to cover up the plethora of LEDs in most rooms if I can't unplug them.

However we did spend some time enjoying the limited wheeling here on Oahu, and that resulted in some glamour shots.
Other than private land, there are really only a few places to go. Most of that is up north, which is the part of the island we prefer anyway. Ka’ena Point state park has a few...
Wrapped up a whole bunch of wiring projects, need to take some better pics of the impact of them but can at least relate in part some of the components.
Blue sea system ML-ACR for battery isolation, made some brackets and used the back side to hold an upgraded H4 harness from Tacomabeast...
The overheating is prevalent in the later years of the Discovery II, far less so with the Discovery 1. I’ve owned several and found them to be rather reliable so long as your definition of that means ‘never quite broken, and never totally fixed.’
By the way, that same definition applies-to a...
But wait, there’s more!
Drive the truck to work-turbo still working great, no lights on the dash. I’m chilling.
Wife and I walk to dinner, come back, truck looks cattywampus from the back. I walk around the front…
Tires were on the agenda, hopefully for later in the spring…especially since...
