    An Axe - Seriously?

Bling! Bling! I made this camp axe earlier this year for a customer, he said it would probably be a "wall hanger" I know better...he'll use it on something. :) It's 300 layer damascus 1080/15N20 with Kingwood handle.

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Thanks! That knife was an order, it'll be headed to Hawaii soon. I'm a full-time knifemaker and do some fabricating when I have time, mostly for myself. I did the mods on the Explorer...it's continuing to evolve...into what I'm not sure yet :) I also make a lot of the shop grinders, tooling and...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

That's a good question! Wyoming just changed it's policy with trailer license, used to be anything home-built, less than 1000# just needed a weight slip and a tag (small like a motorcycle) was issued...no title/VIN needed. Now they want everything built after the first of the year to get a...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

I pre-drilled the holes for the deck screws with a 3/16" bit. Run "em in with an impact, take a hammer and break off the excess screw protruding underneath. Finished!!! Reflectors and ammo cans installed, floor screwed down. mike :coffeedrink:

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Thanks for the comments! It's plenty strong, shouldn't have any problems with it....probably outlive me ;) I got the floor pieces cut out of 3/4" CDX plywood, strong and inexpensive to replace if needed down the road. I gave them a coat of urethane top and bottom. Finally on the ground and...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Paint...not my favorite subject. My nephew, Matt came over to help so I put him to work priming the trailer with epoxy primer, he did a great job! http://i1026.photobucket.com/albums/y323/WyoCoyote58/Trailer%20Build/GEDC1709.jpg I shot the color, it matches the tow vehicle...a dark gray...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Going to try to get this finished up soon. Next was the folding rear gate/ramp. The primary duty for the trailer will be to transport an ATV, so a ramp was needed. I started the hinges with a piece of sch 80 pipe, I put it in the lathe to true the ID so a 3/4" solid steel rod would fit. I welded...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Thanks Rob, this is my second trailer build...learned a lot from the first one. The angle clamped to the bottom of the frame is also squared to the frame, it gives me a much needed "third hand" as I'm doing this without any assistance...the kids are never around when ya need 'em. :) As for...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Moving to the front, another rack. Right side front of fender will have a spare tire mount, I started by trimming away an inch of the top rail and adding 1"x2" tubing. Bracket that will anchor spare to the trailer Bolted up, inside view Looks like it was made for it...tucked in...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Ok...back on track. I mocked up the fender and tire/wheel combo to get the correct measurements for the axle. It took 2 weeks to have built and shipped to my door. After hanging the axle, I made some braces for the fender...probably a little overkill... I figured the fender will get used...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Pat, I'm wandering off topic here a bit, (I tend to do that a lot ) although some of the design of the trailer is for the future addition of a camper. The camper is still in the planning stages, it'll probably be made of wood, skinned with FRP. The plan....subject to change at any given...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

Thanks for the comments! :coffeedrink: The tow vehicle is a '94 Explorer that met the plasma cutter. :p It works for me... Thread on it here. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194616 Pat, I checked out your build, nice work, picked up a couple ideas. You do not want me...

Utility Trailer build (long lotsa pics)

I'm making the bed 20" tall. It'll be made out of 1x3x.120 (11ga) rectangular tubing welded to the outside of the frame. I cut a 30 deg angle on the bottoms, this will allow easy installation of the floor on the outside storage racks. I notched the tubing to fit the rear, squared and welded it...
