Spent a few days in New Mexico with the North Texas Overland gang. Good times, good people. South NM is quite arid and dramatic. The northern part is more to my liking, with a more Alpine vibe.
Most of the Forest Roads were closed for winter even though they didn't seem to have lots of snow.
We...
Well, this little project is done. Now, it looks like the Rigrunner. I got a weird "deja vu" feeling.
Pretty happy with the results. Now time to re-install the roof rack, the rear bumper, and the whole inside.
No more white van. I'll miss the graphics.
Well, I wrinkled the van a little bit. It is time to fix the rust on the rocker panels, fix the dents, fix the roof rack and its wiring, and maybe new colors...
I'm a 10+ over the limit kind of driver and I get about 10mpg no matter what. E350 4x4, 5.4, 4.56 gears and 35" tires. I wanted the Transit (modern, better use of interior space,..) but it will not be an offroad machine as my E350 is and I keep getting feedback about mileage and mine is not...
A few days in the Ouachita (OK, AR border). Great people, nice place. Used the new diesel heater and I love it. LiPoFe battery gave up, devouring all the YouTube videos on how to resuscitate it.
If there is a bypass, of course, I'll take the obstacle.
Stoped by Paris in the way back...
Since my daughter needed her winter clothes, her bicycle, and a bunch of other things for her new life in Boulder, I took advantage of the occasion and did a little detour on the way back through Montezuma, CO.
Fresh snow onthe trails.
The nights were pretty cold. The water tanks didn't...
In September, we went to the Ozarks. Driving up there (10 hrs) I noted that I still had the vibrations that bothered me in Colorado. Early in the trip, 70 to 75 mph was shaky. Towards the end of the trip, the vibration was much worse, even at 40 mph.
I guess September is not the best time to...
Long due update. I've been struggling with the rear springs. For the "Frankenstein" set I did mixing the master leaf from the van with some high arch from an F350, didn't work. It sagged over time a lot creating a lot of vibrations. After several trials, I used a similar approach to the one I...
This is what I did on my old 2000 e150. I liked it and it was not too expensive. Moog CC880 (Not the 880S) at the front and HD leaf springs in the rear (Sorry I do not have a part number for them, they were custom-made or better said assembled by SDTruck Springs). Keep in mind that for your...
I haven't done the exact swap, but I fitted the rear seats from an Explorer using custom-made brackets. Look under the body of the van and you'll see that the placement for the seat bolts is on the cross reinforcement of the body's floor. You can see one in the top right corner of this picture...
Time to remove the laundry basket I had in the swing out (proof of concept) and replace it with something better looking. Since the aluminum box is very light-duty, I built a support frame. If I ever need to carry two spare tires, it will work for this too.
Two camping chairs, a folding little...
Meet the Storm Trooper. Just a minor modification but I wanted to paint the shrouds for a long time. The full glass headlights look a lot better, but these have to option to use DOT-approved LED sealed light and they are a huge improvement.
I used Duplicolor Ford Oxford White (In theory the...
Latest shenanigans. Doing the job with the wrong tool. This was a tight climb because of the tree on the driver's side. Hidden Falls Adventure Park, Texas.
I consider it too, but they are too heavy, and large (probably about 25 gl. each). They are rated for 3600psi. Air compressors go to 150 psi. I have an old 10 Gal. compressor that I'll repurpose the tank and install using the CNG tanks brackets.
