    1977 F150

You might not have done yourself any favors with that link bar. I'm sure your wheel hop is gone, but due to it's design you may have cost yourself articulation and unrestricted suspension travel. Is the front eye of the link bar about in line with the front leaf spring eyes? If not, the rear...

    pickup recommendation

You've got to be joking LOL. Why would you come to a fullsize section of this forum and say that? He just said his Tacoma is too small. I don't think the puddle jumper you suggest is good for anything except fooling people who aren't smart enough to buy a real truck. 88-99 Chevy or GMC. Done...

Considering Suburban over smaller 4x4.. your experience?

The Vortec 5.7 has fantastic reliability, you must just be unlucky. The poppet style injectors will start leaking and have issues eventually, but it's not like it's some epidemic that's blowing them up. Do the Delphi injector upgrade and never look back. I've NEVER seen or heard of a Vortec...

Picked up a '99 Suburban -- Some questions for my build..

what are you talking about? Mallthus is saying to pick the tire size you want to run first, then lift the minimum needed to clear that size so you keep your center of gravity as low as possible, which I think is pretty sound advice. No one mentioned wheel offset. I'm lost as to what your...

Picked up a '99 Suburban -- Some questions for my build..

4D55, the correct way to do this swap would be to swap out the cluster and column, but 'stick shift GMT400 trucks are rare as hen's teeth around here, even the 4.3 2wd ones. I disassembled the cluster, masked off the shift indicator and painted it flat black. To those not looking for it...

    1990 w250 cummins build

I'm no expert, but the stock automatic transmisions are junk in these. I don't think the stock trans is going to like 3.08 gear with 35s, even if the engine can do it. I'd highly recommend a NV4500 swap and a set of 3.73 gears.

Picked up a '99 Suburban -- Some questions for my build..

Not that it matters, but mine is a Tahoe. I'm running a NV4500, same as Larry is running in both his trucks. It's a heavy duty cast iron 5speed with overdrive used mostly in 1-ton chevy and dodge trucks in mid to late 90s. The '88 burb you mention will have the older SM465 4speed manual...

Picked up a '99 Suburban -- Some questions for my build..

LOL, well I wouldn't do a SAS just because the NP246 bites the dust. An SAS will cost a bare minimum of $3500 if you do it yourself. It also transforms the way the truck rides and drives. Plus the way the frame rails on these trucks are made, they don't arch much in the front, which makes it...

Picked up a '99 Suburban -- Some questions for my build..

If you have a button on your dash that says 4Auto, you have the Autotrac t-case, also known as the NP246. I did a Rough country lift and would do it again. I would DEFINETELY go with the 2.2 shocks, I did on my truck and it rides like it did with the Bilstein HDs I had before. You will need a...

How many miles is too many?

I have the Delphi fuel injector upgrade and got rid of my stock poppet injectors. It's not a performance upgrade, it's a reliability upgrade because the poppets can get dirty and clogged, and the plastic lines can break. Blackbear did a good job on my tune, but no tune is going to wake the...

    Dutch Matrix's suburban build

I'm sure thats a 6" lift kit. And to the OP, do yourself a favor and lose the stock 10bolt rear before it fails you with those 35s. Also, I'm assuming it's a lump with the stock 3.42 gears and those 35s as well. I just put 4.56s in my Tahoe on 35s and it's perfect.

Limited Slip Faceoff: Detroit TrueTrac vs. ARB Air Locker

I've got a TrueTrac in my Tahoe with a stick shift. I got it for the good street manners but I flirted with the Detroit Locker and nearly went that way. I haven't regretted one time. The only time I've had a tire off i set the e-brake and it worked great. I was worried about people saying it...

    sleeping in a suv.

I've never slept in anything that short. Are you looking for ideas to facilitate sleeping in such a small area? Only way I know to do it would be to build a platform that would fit over a forward folded front passenger seat. The platform would need to slide or fold back to allow the passenger...

Opinions On Old Trucks with New Engines?

Know your limitations. Limitations on time, ability, budget, tools and workspace. Be real with yourself about those limitations. Most people that think old trucks are nightmares are running short one or more of those things. If you think you rank well enough in those items and go with an old...

Best value Suburban as an all arounder

--Do you plan on any lift in the future? If so I'd say the leaf sprung trucks will get the nod. --Be carefull when shopping for 3/4 ton models. If you're paying the extra, make sure it has the 4L80 trans and NOT the 4L60. I'm not certain that all 5.7L equipped 2500 'burbs got the 4L80...

High mileage Tahoe. Should I pass?

This is the difference between how people feel torque and horsepower. The 5.3 runs pretty good once it's revved up. The 5.7 has much more low end torque and feels better at part throttle, especially in a Suburban with a 3.42 gear set. I don't feel one engine is better than the other, they...
