If this is about fuel economy, buy a new 2015 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2L and 8 speed automatic. In my personal experience, I can get 21-22 mpg on the freeway and 16-17 mpg around town. And it's much more powerful than my 8.1L.

If it's about fuel economy, a $70,000 suv might not save you as much as you think. Haha. Sounds like a very nice unit, and refreshing compared to all the 5.3 subs and yucks out there.

Not sure what to get to replace our aging 3/4 ton suburbans. It's not like I can get a new stripped heavy duty sub with a manual trans anymore. The express is a sorry excuse, and the denali a brutally expensive one.

That's kind of silly, in terms of 'savings'. You're suggesting a $50k solution to a $10k problem. The $40k premium would blot out any imaginable fuel savings. The difference in 100,000mi of driving would be on the order of 2500 gallons, call it $10k in gas savings, after paying $40k more for a vehicle.

eta - ah, plumber made the same point.

That's why I said, "If this is all about fuel economy..."

Obviously, if it's about money or about "want", then you'd go a different direction. But when people are talking about what their 07-up Tahoes with AFM are getting for fuel economy, then you could stretch and say get one with AFM and the 6 speed (even better mpg!), then you might as well get one with variable valve timing. Oh, but why not get one with direct injection (2014), and you might as well get the newest 8 speed (2015)..... pretty soon instead of a 2001-2006, you've talked the guy into a brand new one because the fuel economy has gotten better and better and better over the years, even though performance has increased as well. WIN/WIN... except for that money thing :p

Its about cost, ease to work on for me, and today my wife tells me she wants to start a business where she would need a three quarter ton vehicle and a twenty foot enclosed trailer. No a 07-15 will not fit our budget the fuel economy numbers I'm requesting are to make a rough average from everyone's input.
