What are you looking to carry? I'm also looking for crossbars as our burb didn't come with them. Take a look at my build thread. If you can cut 2x4s and drill some holes you can add some nice looking wood cross bars. In version 2 I added black UHWM to the tops of the wood cross-bars.

Hope the photos help with ideas, I know they are not supper detailed though. The lake is Clear Lake south of Mt. Hood, OR. It's a reservoir type lake so the water level changes seasonally and you can drive around parts of the edge of the lake in the late summer.
